CDN Publishing Acquires Whitman Publishing

Not too long ago, I posted about getting a 2024 copy (hardbound) of Whitman Publishing's A Guide Book of United States Coins (known as the Red Book). It is a good guide for buyers of coins. The only problem I had with it was that the book's binding was not properly stitched or glued onto the pages. A friend and I had to glue it.

Well, it has just been announced that Whitman Publishing has been acquired by CDN Publishing.

From Coin World:

CDN Publishing LLC, a prominent numismatic data company that publishes the wholesale-pricing Greysheet and other resources, has acquired Whitman Publishing, the leading firm in numismatic book-publishing.

Included in the acquisition are Whitman brands including H.E. Harris & Co. (stamps), Cowens (supplies), and the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Expo.

The deal was inked at Anderson Press headquarters in Florence, Alabama, on Oct. 31. Management and staffing of both companies will remain in place, with main offices in Alabama and Virginia.

Maybe the new parent company will do a better job on manufacturing the books.

Books For Your Numismatic Library

Since I have re-entered the world of coin collecting, I currently subscribe to two coin-related magazines, COINage and Numismatist (through my membership in the American Numismatic Association).

I do have a vintage 1976 Bicentennial edition of A Guide Book of United States Coins (known as the Red Book). Note its price in the image above. I should get the current edition, I suppose. It is around $19.95 today.

Numismatic News has posted an article on "Books for Your Numismatic Library" with recommendations on which ones that should be included.

They begin it with:

Do you have a numismatic library? For the purpose of this article, I’ll assume that you don’t. What books would make good additions to a budding numismatic library?

The initial purchase should probably be a book that combines an overview of coin collecting with coin values. A good example of this is the current Guide Book of United States Coins, a.k.a. the Red Book, because of the color of its cover.

Dr. Seuss Books Fall Victim To Cancel Culture

Six books by Dr. Seuss (the late Theodore Geisel) will cease publication for alleged "racist" and "hurtful" images according to Dr. Seuss Enterprises.

CNN reported:

(CNN) - Six Dr. Seuss books will no longer be published because they "portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong," the business that preserves the author's legacy said.

The titles are:

• "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street"
• "If I Ran the Zoo"
• "McElligot's Pool"
• "On Beyond Zebra!"
• "Scrambled Eggs Super!"
• "The Cat's Quizzer"

In a statement, Dr. Seuss Enterprises said it made the decision after consulting educators and reviewing its catalog.

"Consulting educators"?! That explains it. Most likely, the "educators" they consulted were leftist candyasses who are engaged in the indoctrination of students into radical liberal dogma and are in lockstep with the "cancel culture" that's going on now.
