100th Anniversary of Ishiro Honda's Birth
Today marks the 100th anniversary of Godzilla (1954) director Ishiro Honda's birth.
Honda was born May 7, 1911 in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. He is often called "the father of Godzilla."
He went on to direct other Japanese science-fiction movies such as Rodan, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Monster Zero, Matango, Atragon and many others.
He began his career as an assistant to director (and friend) Akira Kurosawa and rejoined Kurosawa as an assistant director towards the end of his career.
Honda died on February 28, 1993 at the age of 81.
