The Bat-Signal Over L.A. To Honor Adam West

The late Batman star, Adam West will be honored tomorrow night with the lighting of the "Bat-Signal" in a special ceremony.

Newsarama reported:

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will light the Bat-Signal over Los Angeles in a special ceremony honoring the late Adam West, who starred in the 60s Batman TV series as the Caped Crusader himself. 

The ceremony will be conducted on Thursday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. PST at Los Angeles City Hall.

Celebrating The Life of Noel Neill

Today, about 100 people gathered in the Metropolis First United Methodist Church to celebrate the life of actress Noel Neill. Neill passed away in July at age 95.

Among the attendees were Jim Nolt, Mike Goldman, Brad Shey and myself. The services were led by Neill's biographer and manager Larry Ward.

Ward said that the intent of the services were to celebrate Neill's life and career. He said it was okay to laugh. He also said that she passed away peacefully in her sleep and her ashes were scattered in the Pacific Ocean, near where she loved to play beach vollyball in Santa Monica.

Speakers included Nolt, Dr. Pam Munter, Jim Bowers, Larry Blankley, Karla Ogle, Lisa Gower, Stephanie Perrin, Angie Sivori. There were also video tributes by Steve Younis, John Field, Terry Ryan and Jim Bowers. Musical performances were made by The Melungeons and Skip Griparis.

On display at the church were large photographs of Noel Neill as Lois Lane as well as movie posters.

On the church's stage. movie posters, photographs as well as Noel's "uniform" (that she wore at conventions), her "Golden Boot" Award, her Inkpot Award, her Metropolis "Key To The City" and other items.

During the service, a video clip of Neill singing in the movie, On The Santa Fe Trail was shown.
Included in the video tributes by Field and Bowers were scenes of Neill's 85th birthday luncheon at the Beverly Garland Hotel and the unveiling of the Noel Neill "Lois Lane" statue in Metropolis as well as some convention appearances.

Superman Plaque Gets A Cleaning

Adventures of Superman fan Brad Shey has been in the Los Angeles area on vacation.

Over the weekend, Brad and his entourage paid a visit to the Superman plaque in Tarzana. He posted some photos of the plaque and of him cleaning it.

Brad attended the Superman Celebration in August 2014, which included the plaque dedication.

I didn't know that Brad would be in the area. But I told him he should have let me know so we could meet up, as I don't live too far from the plaque. He didn't know.

Oh, well. Maybe next time.

Noel Neill Tribute

Tomorrow will mark one month since the passing of actress Noel Neill.

Brad Shey created this "Breakfast Table In Heaven" and thought I would share it. He calls it, "A "Kellogg's Breakfast" Reunion".

Yesterday was memorable for a number of reasons.

I celebrated the 23rd anniversary of my 39th birthday at one of my old haunts.

I received many nice messages on my birthday, far too many to thank individually. So a big, blanket "thank you" to all.

Brad Shey came up with another one of his birthday masterpieces and it is posted above. Thanks, Brad!

"Hail, Caesar!" Opens Friday

A new "screwball comedy" is set to open this Friday. It called Hail, Caesar! and is based on MGM's "fixer" Eddie Mannix. Josh Brolin plays Mannix.

Last night, following the Jack Larson Memorial at UCLA, we migrated over to the Smokehouse restaurant in Burbank/Toluca Lake for dinner.

During dinner, we talked about Jack and the good times we had with him over the years.

Following dinner, as we were heading out, we ran into TV personality/comedian Chuck McCann and we posed for the above photograph.

I pointed out, during dinner, that McCann once portrayed Superman. It was in a comedy skit.

The Jack Larson Memorial

The Jack Larson Memorial was held this evening at the James Bridges Theater on the UCLA campus.

The program consisted of remembrances of Larson from members of his family and colleagues during his days as a writer, producer and playwright and through music. There were also stills and film clips of his acting days on the Adventures of Superman television show and more recently. One of the speakers, surprisingly, was actress Debra Winger (Urban Cowboy and An Officer and A Gentleman).

Another surprise, actress Kathleen Nolan (The Real McCoys) also spoke and she detailed her relationship with Jack.

Among the audience members, besides Denise Santos and myself, were Jim Nolt and his daughter Lisa, Stephanie Shayne, Ray Duke, Brad Shey, Mike Goldman, Jim Beaver, Jeff Breslauer, Gary Grossman, Mike Clark and several others.

Prior to the program, refreshments were served.

Following the Memorial, several of us went to dinner at the Smokehouse restaurant in Toluca Lake, where we met comedian Chuck McCann.

Accompanying this blog post are the pages from the memorial booklet that was given out to attendees.

As Jack was always there for us at events, we were there for him.
