The Geezer Omelette

Six days a week, a group of us from Jamestown, New Mexico congregate down at the Denny's restaurant at the Flying J for breakfast or just coffee.

We are all in the same age group, over 55, and we partake from the Denny's 55+ menu. The item most chosen is the senior omelette.

However, I and several others, generally refer to it as "the geezer omelette". It has gotten to the point were some of the servers also started calling it "the geezer omelette".

Yesterday, I had the senior omelette and when I went to the register to pay, the cashier girl took my receipt and said out loud, as she was hitting keys on the register, "One geezer omelette." We all had a good laugh over that.

Larry, one of our group members, said that it wouldn't be surprising if Denny's changed their senior menu and changed the senior omelette to the geezer omelette.

With that in mind, I made the above "ad" last night for fun and to envision on what such a change might look like.

Many of us baby boomers have entered or nearing "geezerhood" (becoming a senior citizen). With that, and relying upon retirement savings and Social Security, money is limited. 

We know about senior discounts at restaurants, but there's more money-saving benefits seniors can get access to.

Life'd has posted a list of 19 discounts that many seniors didn't know they can get.

Vacations and Travel, A Key Component of Retirement

Since I retired two years ago, there has not been a single moment where I regretted the decision.

I already preplanned on what I was going to do and went ahead and am doing it: travel. It is a great opportunity to see new places and things and enjoy the benefits of ordering "geezer slams" (their senior menu) at Denny's while on the road.

That is exactly what the Buffalo Reflex recommends for seniors to do in their retirement years and they provide some ideas on how to go about it.

A Milestone Reached...Sort Of

Last night, my mom and I went out to dinner at Coco's (she had a craving for prime rib, but they didn't have any) out in Woodland Hills.

As I was perusing the menu, I noticed that the sirloin steak dinner offered in the main menu was the same as the sirloin steak dinner offered in their senior menu. Coco's senior menu is for folks who've attained the age of the double-nickle (i.e., 55), which I did five months ago.

I figured, since the offerings were the same and since I've reached the lofty age allowing me to partake, why not save a couple of bucks and go for the one on the senior menu? So I did.

I'm proud of myself, I at least held off five months before surrendering to the reality of encroaching geezerhood.

Incidentally, while searching for a Coco's image to put with this, I discovered that there are Coco's Restaurants in Japan!
