With Godzilla set to open in Japan in a little over three weeks from now, the Japanese media are beginning to crank out articles on our favorite kaiju.
The Mainichi Weekly put out one article on June 27.
The article begins with:
This year's Hollywood reboot of the classic Japanese monster movie "Godzilla" has been an absolute beast at the U.S. and Canadian box offices, raking in $194,915,000 as of the June 20‐22 weekend − and staying within the top 10 highest‐earning films more than a month after its May 16 release. It is also now the fourth highest‐grossing "creature feature" in movie history.
Another Hollywood Godzilla hit screens in 1998, but the beast was slammed for its iguana‐like appearance − as well as for lacking the gravitas of the 1954 original.
