One major thing I noticed while on the trip to Metropolis, Illinois and back were the gasoline prices.
Once I got out of California, the prices dropped to near $2.00/gallon of unleaded gasoline (one has to be careful about the octane levels as some were at 86 octane, not the 87 octane we're used to in California).
For example, in my pocket was one receipt I saved. It was at the West Stop in Abilene, Kansas. There, I paid $1.859/gallon.
I went to other gasoline stations, mainly the Flying J Travel Centers and found prices even lower. Additionally, Flying J Travel Centers give Good Sam members additional discounts on gasoline.
When was the last time California had prices under $2.00/gallon? It's been a while!
We are so screwed! It's a wonder people stay in California.
