Denise Nickerson From "Dark Shadows"

Left, Amy Jennings (Denise Nickerson) and Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) on "Dark Shadows."

Back in the late 1960s, Denise Nickerson appeared on the daytime spook-opera Dark Shadows as Amy Jennings, whose older twin brothers (played by the late Don Briscoe) Tom and Chris Jennings suffered supernatural fates.

Tom was made a vampire and Chris (as a decendant of Quentin Collins) was a werewolf.

Besides Dark Shadows, Nickerson also appeared in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the acclaimed made-for-television movie, The Neon Ceiling.

The U.K. Daily Telegraph has an article on Nickerson and the other actors who appeared in Willy Wonka.

In the article, it has been revealed that Nickerson's role in Willy Wonka caused some dental problems for her:

She played the spoilt gum chewing brat Violet Beauregard in the 1971 classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, .

But the role in the popular children's film came at a price for actress Denise Nickerson, who has revealed it nearly cost her her teeth.

Forty years on since she ballooned like a blueberry before our eyes, Nickerson says that she received a whopping 13 cavities in her teeth as a result from all the gum she was forced to chew.

The article includes photos of Nickerson, then and now. To read the article, go here.
