Japan Tourism Numbers Down 31.9%

March 11 earthquake and the resulting tsunami and radiation fears took huge bite out of number of visitors to Japan so far this year.

According to Travel Weekly:

Foreign tourist arrivals to Japan were down 31.9% from January to May compared with the first five months of 2010, according to figures released by the Japan Tourism Agency.


The disaster also reduced the number of American visitors:

Tourist arrivals from the U.S....were off 30.3% for the first five months of the year.

However, Japan has now risen from the ashes and is trying to tell the world the country is no longer posing any threats to the health of its people and visitors. Especially now, Japan needs tourists to return.
