Today marks the 25th anniversary of President Ronald Reagan's “tear down
this wall” speech delivered at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany on June 12, 1987.
In the speech, Reagan said, "General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for
the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to
this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
The Berlin Wall fell on Nov. 9, 1989, not by Gorbachev, but at the hands of Berliners themselves.
