Rest In Peace, Pachipro

As one gets older, dealing with the deaths of family members and friends becomes a more frequent occurrence.

Unfortunately, it has happened again and it comes as a major shock, even more so since he was my age and that he never let on to me that he was ill.

Joe Cyr an online friend from Japan Reference who passed away from cancer this evening.  Joe and I have been JREF, Facebook and email friends since 2004.  The love of Japan brought us together (we were also kindred souls politically as well).

He was known as "Pachipro" at JREF (he was a Pachinko fan). We hoped to finally meet at an annual gathering in Japan put on by a fellow JREF friend, Mike Cash. But that was not to be.

This was Joe's JREF avatar.

The following announcement was posted over at JREF this evening:

After a courageous year-long battle with cancer, Joe has moved on to heaven. He passed peacefully at 8pm on July 5th. His wife was by his bedside. He joins his mother, father and brother Robert in heaven and is survived by his loving wife, Yuki sisters Susan and Helen and their families. Joe always appreciated his wonderful friends and their love and support throughout the years and his family thanks you. May your hearts be filled not with sorrow, but with joy in his honor, it's exactly what he wanted.

My thoughts and prayers are with Yuki and his family.

Four years ago, Joe wrote this to me: "Very pleased to [be] one of your friends, Armand!"

Likewise, Joe. Likewise.
