It has been reported at Japan-guide.com and elsewhere that the iconic giant video screen on the Q-Front Building at Shibuya Crossing (the building that houses Starbucks across from Shibuya Station) in Tokyo has been shut down and may have been removed.
Last month, I reported on a contest to have the winner's video message displayed on one of the video screens at Shibuya Crossing. The Q-Front screen was the biggest. A poster responded to my contest blog with:
It looks as if the big Q-Front video screen has been taken down, what is the point of this promotion if only the small, relatively insignificant screens are in use?I checked around and there doesn't seem to be any news on the screen's possible removal. Is it permanent or for maintenance (or replacement)? Can anyone confirm this?

Hi,
The person who questioned this was me. A poster on another forum works in Shibuya and has promised me to actually go inside the Tsutaya building to try and get a definite answer from somebody. He's also worried it may have been taken down. I'll try to keep you posted, or you could keep an eye on the same forum at http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1305465&page=7
Cheers
Thank you very much! Very appreciated!
Good news, well I hope so anyway. An eagle eyed poster from the SSC forum came across an article online, in Japanese, which seems to suggest the screen is simply being replaced with a 16:9 screen, albeit a smaller one and will be online from August 1st. This is the Google translate extract of the article:
It becomes the new Q'S EYE next resale large vision of the landmark building of the Q FRONT Shibuya Hachiko crossing "Q'S EYE" is renewed.
Screen is smaller, but the diversion of material is now easy to be changed ratio of 16:9.
Broadcast start, scheduled for 8/1.
FYI, the screen is being tested. The entire facade can be used as one display. It looks quite amazing. Check the SSC thread for pics:
