Kurobe Dam celebrated the 50th anniversary of its completion yesterday.
According to News On Japan:
Tateyama, Toyama Pref., June 5 (Jiji Press)--Kurobe Dam marked the 50th anniversary of its completion on Wednesday with a ceremony to remember the 171 people who died during its construction deep in a steep mountain range in central Japan.The dam cost ¥51.3 billion to build. It is 186 meters high and the water capacity of its reservoir is 200 million cubic meters.
The following year, the dam was briefly featured in Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster (1964). It is spotlighted in The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan on page 34.
