Freezing Nights

Above, one of the cats enjoying the heat pad. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

The two remaining kittens from D.K.'s last litter have discovered the joys of the heat pad inside the Cat's Condo.

It's a good thing, too, since tonight's temperature will drop down to 25°.

Up until now, I hadn't plugged it in as the cats didn't use it until the past few months. Since they have, I plugged it in last evening and they took to it.

Tomorrow, I have to get The Beast ready for the upcoming clampout with the Lost Dutchman Chapter of E Clampus Vitus. It'll be around 51° tomorrow. But tomorrow night, the cold will return and the nighttime temperature will be around 30°. Thank goodness I have an electrical outlet with an adapter "dogbone" plug for The Beast's power cord so I can run a space heater inside and the holding tank heaters at the outlet at the base of one of the yard lights. In the GOCO Beast Barn, I run the holding tank heaters and a space heater underneath the motorhome.

At least I am heading to some warmer areas in Arizona.

Where the heck did autumn go to?

Kitty In Condo

Since last night's temperature got down to freezing or near freezing, I plugged in the heat pad in the Cat's Condo on the deck.

D.K.'s kittens have been using it and since the night and morning would be cold they needed a warm space.

When I got home from the post office this afternoon (the snow stopped), I saw one of the kitties in the Condo. At least the electricity is not going to waste as they are making good use of it.

A few minutes ago, snuck this photo of the kitty in the Condo:

Here's the same photo, but zoomed in:

Cat's Condo For P.K. and Family

Above, the finished Cat's Condo. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

After getting back to Jamestown after getting propane for The Beast in Gallup and putting The Beast back inside the GOCO Beast Barn, I found a couple of packages on my porch.

They were from Chewy.com, a pet supply company.

I noticed a few days ago that the stray cat that I call "P.K." (for Porch Kitty) had a litter of kittens. They are under the deck. I've seen a couple of them and they are grey like their mother, some with some yellow markings.

I decided that since autumn is just around the corner (and temperatures will be dropping), I should get them some sort of better shelter. I checked Chewy.com and found the "Cat's Condo". It is wooden and is the right size for them.

So, I proceeded to put the Cat's Condo together. It wasn't difficult, despite that the manufacturer put screw holes on one panel in the wrong place and omitted screw holes in another. I got my drill out and drilled the necessary holes.

In about an hour, I got the Cat's Condo all put together and set it against the deck. The second package was a kitty Premium Pet Blanket. I placed it inside the Cat's Condo. I'll see about getting some straw to line the floor.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the little family to take up residence in it.
