As the crow flies, Fort Wingate is about 5-6 miles from home. But to get there, one has to take Interstate 40 and exit at Highway 400 and go south about 5 miles.
I decided to take a little drive over to Fort Wingate to see what it looks like today. I couldn't get too close as the access road was barricaded. But I did manage to get a few photos.
The turn-off to Fort Wingate is where the Veterans Park is located. I couldn't go inside the park as a man was inside with his large dogs.
