2011 First Quarter Success For Monster Japan Travel Guide

The first quarter of 2011 (and we're not even in April yet) has been the most successful for The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan.

January

The quarter (January-April) started out with an interview article in Japan's number one English magazine, Metropolis. This was a direct result of my December 2010 trip to Japan.

Also, the quarter started out with ads, one a full-page ad and the other a quarter page ad, in two issues of Famous Monsters of Filmland. The ad was designed by Archie Waugh, who also did the cover of the travel guide.

In late January, I received a re-order of The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan from Kinokuniya Bookstores' Little Tokyo (downtown Los Angeles) store.

February

February started out with a new round of photos featuring model Miki Hayashi. Then The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan received a nomination for "Best Book" in the 9th Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. The Rondo Awards are sort of like "The People's Choice Awards," but are voted on by horror and science-fiction fans and professionals. It's a big honor just to be nominated.

February finished out with word that I am to give a one-hour presentation on Japanese movie monster locations at this year's Monsterpalooza in Burbank.

The presentation will be based on The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan. Monsterpalooza will be held at the Burbank Marriott and Convention Center near Bob Hope Airport April 8-10. The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan will be available for purchase before and after my presentation.

March

March began with a big compliment from Brad Poulson, Executive Director of SPANnet.org, a site whose focus is "Advancing The Success of Independent Publishers and Authors."

Poulson wrote:

This is a great photo! Don’t miss how Armand is using it in his marketing plan. Here is a link where he steps through the promotional activities that are part of that plan: One Media Outlet Opens Doors To Others. You’ll see I’m a big fan of Armand’s planning and implementation process.

April

And, as previously mentioned, April will start out with my presentation on Friday, April 8 at Monsterpalooza.

Additionally, throughout the quarter, The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan continues to sell. Considering the current state of the economy, this is great!

I couldn't be more pleased at how things are going. Thus far, the first quarter of 2011 is going very well and we still have a little less than two months to go before the quarter is over! Not bad!

Armand,
As an independent publisher, I think you are doing a terrific job of planning your work and working your plan. You are a role model for the members of the Small Publishers Association (SPAN). Thanks for the mention and for being active on our online community for authors and publishers!

Respectfully,
Brad Poulson
