Quake Aftermath: Currency Exchange

The devastating Tohoku (or Sendai) Earthquake of yesterday has given the Japanese economy a major shock. At least initially.

Although the Japanese economy has been in the doldrums of late, over the long haul, the rebuilding of the damaged infrastructure, homes and businesses will be beneficial to the economy.

How has the earthquake affected the exchange rate between the dollar and yen? Thus far, nothing.

Today' exchange rate (from the Universal Currency Converter):

1.00 USD = 81.8900 JPY

Bear in mind that the markets haven't had time to absorb the magnitude of the earthquake as the calamity only happened yesterday. We'll have to give it a few days before the impact on the markets sinks in.
