Jiji Press reported:
HIROSHIMA – Work started Monday to assess the earthquake resistance of the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima to confirm whether there is a need to reinforce the structure, part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. This is the first such test since the Dome was registered as a World Heritage site in 1996. The A-Bomb Dome is covered on page 44 of The Monster Movie Fan's Guide To Japan. The Dome is part of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The structure is briefly seen in Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991) and the atomic bombings of Japan were inspirations in the creation of the Godzilla character.
