A little while ago, I stepped outside to take my trash container to the road for today's pick-up.
It was about 20° outside, so you can imagine that I would get it to the road and get back indoors as fast as I could.
Not long after, the WeatherBug app on my phone sent me the below message:

Fox News Peter Doocy revealed that President Biden called his cellphone following a hostile exchange the two of them had at the White House earlier in the day.
During an event on Monday evening, Doocy attempted to ask Biden a question about inflation, to which the president responded by calling him a "stupid son of a b----."
Appearing on "Hannity," Doocy said the president reached out to him "within about an hour of that exchange."
"He said ‘It’s nothing personal, pal,'" Doocy said. "And we went back and forth, and we were talking about just kind of moving forward, and I made sure to tell him that I'm always gonna try to ask something different than what everybody else is asking. And he said, ‘You got to.’ And that's a quote from the president, so I'll keep doing it."

If one enjoys hiking and would like to try something different, there is the Narrows Trail in Zion National Park.
The trail is not really a trail, but a slot canyon formed by the Virgin River. Just make sure to wear waterproof footwear.

Back in the late 1970s and 1980s, I would try to get up to California's Wine Country (Napa and Sonoma Valleys) whenever I could.
I enjoyed sampling each years' vintages in the tasting rooms of several wineries and bring home boxes of different wines. During my college years, my mom and I would pop open a bottle two at home on weekends while my dad was out bowling. Good times!
I generally would go in the autumn months when there are less people crowding the tasting rooms.
Speaking of avoiding crowds in Wine Country, that is the subject of a new article by Travel + Leisure.

One tip from me. If you have an RV, stay at Bothe Napa State Park in Napa Valley. I've stayed there a few times, even during rainstorms which can be frequent during autumn. The park has a nice campground.

Today, I had some business to attend to in Albuquerque.
I got on the road early this morning at 6:30 in 21° outside. A little bitter cold out. Before getting on Interstate 40, I stopped at the Flying J to get a cup of coffee to bring along.

One of the things I had to do was to exchange a pair of jeans I bought two weeks ago at Cabela's. The size was right, but the jeans were flawed. They had no rear belt loops. The other pair I bought at the same time had them.

I was able to exchange them without any problem. While there, I went over to the ammo section and the shelves were fully stocked. This was the first time in ages I've seen it stocked. I bought some Winchester 9mm hollowpoint rounds.
After that, I did other things I needed to do.

As things turned out, I was done before noon. So I headed home instead of staying the night at the Route 66 RV Resort.
On the way home, I did stop in Milan (about 30 miles from home) and tried out the Kiva Café for the first time. It is listed as a best place for enchiladas in the New Mexico Enchilada Trail. This was the third restaurant I've tried that's in the trail. I had chicken enchiladas. They were excellent. The sauce (red) was good, but I sweated profusely. (That's one way to tell if the sauce is any good.)
Before heading home, I went next door to the Chaco Trading Post to look around. It has to be one of the nicest gift shops I've seen here.
After browsing, I got back into The Beast and headed home.
Is common sense finally creeping into the World Health Organization?
It seems that way as they are calling for countries to lift their travel bans as they have proven to be ineffective in stopping the spread of coronavirus and its variants.
Japan is one nation who has a total travel ban in place. The omicron variant has hit there despite the travel ban and other restrictions.
According to a post in Study International:
The World Health Organisation (WHO) is calling for countries to lift their international travel bans amid pandemic-related travel restrictions. In a statement, the agency said: “Lift or ease international traffic bans as they do not provide added value and continue to contribute to the economic and social stress experienced by States Parties.
“The failure of travel restrictions introduced after the detection and reporting of Omicron variant to limit international spread of Omicron demonstrates the ineffectiveness of such measures over time,” read the statement.
They suggested implementing travel measures such as masking, testing, isolation or quarantine and vaccination. The statement said countries should not require proof of vaccination against COVID-19 for international travel due to limited global access and inequitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

How do you thaw a frozen RV holding tank?
Fortunately for me, I've never had a freezing tank problem as I constantly check the weather and temperatures whenever I do some winter camping and flip on the holding tank heaters and take other measures.
But, should they become frozen, RV Life has an article on how to thaw them out.
They begin with:
Most RVs can withstand some chilly weather, but once the temperature dips below freezing, you can run into some problems. If your holding tanks, hookups, or pipes end up freezing, this has the potential to cause some serious damage to your RV. This is why everyone needs to know how to thaw a frozen RV tank safely.
Holding tanks are one of the most exposed parts of an RV, and they can take a long time to thaw naturally. If they’re out of commission, you may have a hard time getting running water in your RV, which is a pain in the neck for everyone.

According to the United Nations, Tokyo is the world's most populated metropolitan are at 37.5 million people.
While it has a lot of people, it is still a great place to visit.
Since foreign tourists are not allowed into Japan at present due to the pandemic, The Travel has posted things one should expect while in Tokyo, in the meantime. Also, they have plenty of photographs to enjoy.

Starting a new airline may be risky business, especially during a pandemic year where, no pun intended, things are up in the air.
This airline is to connect the U.S. to destinations in Asia, particularly, South Korea and Japan.
Travel Off Path reported:
New U.S. Airline, Northern Pacific Airways, is hoping to hit the skies in late 2022, offering travelers new options to fly from North America to destinations within Asia.
On the airline’s official website they state, “An airline should do more than just ‘get you there.’ Northern Pacific Airways will be a new bridge between people and place, connecting the U.S. to Korea’s and Japan’s breathtaking sites and millennia-old culture.”

If one is planning to vacation in Hawaii this year, they may have to have a booster shot to be allowed into the islands.
Travel Pulse has posted an article that Hawaii is possibly targeting a booster requirement on February 18.
They reported:
Hawaii is looking at February 18 as a possible target date for adding a booster shot as a requirement to its Safe Travels Hawaii and Safe Access Oahu programs, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi told KHON television.
Hawaii Gov. David Ige suggested as recently as a week ago that the booster would be added to the program adopted by the state to help stem the tide of COVID-19 transmission. That would also include any tourists visiting Hawaii.

Now that the dock at the USS Arizona Memorial has been repaired, visitors can now board the shuttle boats to visit the memorial again.
If one has never been to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, The Travel has posted a guide that will prove to be helpful to visitors on the attractions there.

Yesterday, I received an email from John Block of the Piñon Post on the battle against Critical Race Theory (CRT) in New Mexico.
One part of the email caught my attention.

If Searchlight New Mexico is so "nonpartisan", why are they stating that the "pro-Trump founder was at the Jan. 6 insurrection"? Do they think this negates his stand against the racist Critical Race Theory? It looks like the old "if you have no valid rebuttal argument, attack the source" thing. John Block was in Washington that day and marched, but he didn't go inside the Capitol or was ever arrested.
"Screeds"? Note how they slipped that one in. Another attack.
Contrary to what the left-wing Democrats are trying to portray the January 6, 2021 matter, it was a protest that got out of hand, not an insurrection. This meme is hilariously so since the Capitol Police ushered protesters into the Capitol.
While preparing their article on the CRT battle, did Searchlight New Mexico even bother to talk to John Block? If not, that's hardly "investigative reporting".
So much for their "non-partisan" bullshit. Perhaps if we do some background checking of their staff, we just might get some interesting revelations.

Boat tours to the USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii have resumed as repairs to the shoreline embarking dock have been completed.
According to Travel Weekly:
After the U.S. Navy completed repairs to a shoreside dock on Jan. 5, boat tours have resumed to the USS Arizona Memorial at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
Tours had been suspended since damage to the dock was discovered Dec. 12.
The fix is temporary, however, and a new dock will be installed at a later date, according to a statement from the National Park Service.

The U.S. Postal Service has unveiled another batch of postage stamp designs for 2022.
One of the designs features Monument Valley.
According to WHNT:
(WHNT) — A whole batch of new stamps are headed to post offices across the nation.
The United States Postal Service announced the 2022 stamp program last fall with stamps featuring U.S. flags, blueberries, LOVE 2022, Edmonia Lewis, Title IX, Katharine Graham, women’s rowing, George Morrison paintings, and many more. Now, USPS has unveiled even more designs.
On the Monument Valley stamp, they wrote:
- Monument Valley: This stamp captures the image of Monument Valley in the style of a vintage travel guide. It will be released in Monument Valley, Utah on February 14.

The 2022 legislative session in New Mexico has opened and already the Democrats who are in control are targeting our gun rights.

The final numbers are in and they show that 2021 was the busiest year ever for Yellowstone National Park. I was last in Yellowstone back in 2019.
According to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle:
With the December numbers finally tallied, Yellowstone National Park has a final visitation number for its busiest year on record: 4,860,537.
The final number shows a wide gulf between 2021 and the next busiest year. The total count for 2021 is more than 600,000 visits higher than 2016, which had a little more than 4.25 million visits.
At least nine separate months topped their previous highs in 2021, according to park records — March, April, May, June, July, August, September, November and December. July was the busiest month ever, with more than 1 million visits recorded.

Those who are not comic book fans are likely not familiar with artist George Perez.
Perez had a great career in penciling and inking comic books since the Bronze Age (the period of years following the Silver Age of comics) until eye problems forced him to retire. He's my age, but about five months younger.
I have been familiar with his work starting in the 1980s, particularly the series of comic books called Crisis On Infinite Earths that closed out the Bronze Age and ushered in the "Modern Age" (mainly the reboot of Superman by John Byrne).
A few weeks ago, I read that Perez has terminal cancer. After having experienced cancer when my dad came down with terminal lymphoma, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
I have never met Perez when he was on the convention circuit, but I have read that Superman artist Curt Swan was one of his influences. Perez inked Swan's pencils in one of the two final Silver Age Superman stories in Action Comics, "Whatever Happened To The Man of Tomorrow?"
Right now, I don't know how far advanced Perez's cancer is, but if he reads this, I just wanted to say a big "thank-you" for years of great artistry.

Constance here, with the update no one wants to read. George passed away yesterday, peacefully at home with his wife of 490 months and family by his side. He was not in pain and knew he was very, very loved.
We are all very much grieving but, at the same time, we are so incredibly grateful for the joy he brought to our lives. To know George was to love him; and he loved back. Fiercely and with his whole heart. The world is a lot less vibrant today without him in it.
He loved all of you. He loved hearing your posts and seeing the drawings you sent and the tributes you made. He was deeply proud to have brought so much joy to so many.
Everyone knows George’s legacy as a creator. His art, characters and stories will be revered for years to come. But, as towering as that legacy is, it pales in comparison to the legacy of the man George was. George’s true legacy is his kindness. It’s the love he had for bringing others joy - and I hope you all carry that with you always.
Today is Free Comic Book Day. A day George absolutely loved and a fitting day to remember his contributions to comics and to our lives. I hope you’ll enjoy your day today with him in mind. He would have loved that.

Until I moved to New Mexico, I never had to deal with septic tanks and their maintenance as we had a sewer system in Los Angeles County.
Now, at the beginning of each month, I pour in a one month's box of powdered Rix-X down the toilet as I have a septic tank system.
The question came up at Do It Yourself RV of, Is Rid-X safe for RV tanks?
Here's their short answer:
Cleaning and treating our RV water tanks may not be a fun process, but it’s a necessary one. Picking the right cleaning agent will help keep the system running smoothly, reduce odors, and prevent blockages. With so many products on the market, many people have wondered, “Is Rid-X safe for RV tanks?”
Rid-X is safe to use in RV tanks as long as it is only applied in small quantities. Usually a mixture of 3 oz Rid-X and 1 gallon of water is enough to clean a standard tank. If this substance is used too often, it can slow down the helpful bacteria in your tank that break down waste.
At the end of the day, it is generally safe to use Rid-X in your RV tanks, but it may not be the perfect solution. This chemical is quite potent and needs to be diluted so it doesn’t cause problems. It certainly has helpful benefits, but you may want to consider alternative methods as well. Below we’ll discuss the pros and cons of using Rid-X in your RV tanks.
Personally, I've never used Rid-X, nor have I thought of using it, in my RV holding tanks. But it was a good question to ask anyway.

While it is good that much of Biden's and the Democrats' agenda has been shot down in flames, it also raises the specter of renewed attacks on our Second Amendment rights.
Gun rights groups are getting ready for battle, should it come.
The Washington Examiner reported:
The nation’s Second Amendment rights groups are readying for a new attack by longtime gun control advocate President Joe Biden now that the key elements of his domestic agenda have been shelved in a series of Senate rejections.
The gun-making industry and advocacy groups were put on warning last week when Biden slipped in anti-gun comments in his impromptu statement on the Texas synagogue hostage situation. The suspect, who was killed by police, was seen with a gun that he apparently purchased illegally.
Biden said that FBI background checks do not stop illegal purchases and indicated that the answer is to take guns away and off streets.
“You can’t stop something like this if someone is on the street buying something from somebody else on the street. Except that there’s too — there’s so many guns that have been sold of late; it’s just ridiculous,” Biden said.
“And it’s because of the failure of us to focus as hard as we should and as consistent as we should on gun purchases, gun sales, ghost guns, and a whole range of things that I’m trying to do,” he added.
While gun purchases remain at near-record levels, many are being made by first-time buyers, especially women and minorities concerned about their safety, according to gun stores.
And many states are rewarding that by relaxing rules on carrying weapons, with several approving the easing of concealed carry laws.
With this being an election year, it is tantamount to suicide for Democrats to attack our Second Amendment rights. But since they're insane, this probably won't hold them back

Today's mail included three DVDs. One of them I ordered and two were Christmas presents from my former roommate Jessica.
The two from Jessica were GoldenEye (1995) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), which star Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. I hadn't warmed up to Brosnan as Bond until after some years went by, so I hadn't added them to my collection. But more on those two movies tomorrow.
The one I ordered was Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, Play Misty For Me (1971).
Actually, the three are Blu-rays.
I spent yesterday afternoon and evening watching the two Bond movies. I haven't seen either since their theatrical releases. It was probably due to my non-enthusiasm of Brosnan's Bond. But he has grown in my esteem since then, at least a little bit (I saw Brosnan in 2011 at a Los Angeles eatery).
Of the two, I found myself actually enjoying Tomorrow Never Dies more than GoldenEye, even though 007 fans and critics give GoldenEye higher marks. Funny thing, the evil media mogul plot in Tomorrow Never Dies seemed very far-fetched at the time (1997), but since the mainstream media has gone totally haywire with their biased "reporting" in recent years, it is not so far-fetched now.
Now my Bond movie collection is complete. Still, my preferred era for James Bond still is the Sean Connery era (I include George Lazenby's sole outing in On Her Majesty's Secret Service in that era) with Daniel Craig's a close second.
I'll be watching Clint Eastwood's Play Misty For Me this evening.

New Mexico Governor "Malevolent Michelle" Lujan Grisham ought to take a good hard look at a California federal court ruling.
Back in 2020, she shut down New Mexico's gun stores when the pandemic struck the state, calling them "non-essential".
California counties of Los Angeles and Ventura did the same and now a panel with the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that those actions violated people's constitutional rights.
According to the Long Beach Post:
Two California counties violated the Constitution’s right to keep and bear arms when they shut down gun and ammunition stores in 2020 as nonessential businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday.
Officials in Los Angeles and Ventura counties had separately won lower court decisions saying gun stores were not exempt from broader shutdown orders aimed at limiting the spread of the coronavirus early in the pandemic.
A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected both lower court rulings.
The Second Amendment “means nothing if the government can prohibit all persons from acquiring any firearm or ammunition,” Judge Lawrence VanDyke wrote. “But that’s what happened in this case.”
Because buyers can obtain guns only by personally going to gun stores in California, Ventura County’s 48-day closure of gun shops, ammunition shops and firing ranges “wholly prevented law-abiding citizens in the County from realizing their right to keep and bear arms,” he wrote.

The one I ordered was Clint Eastwood's directorial debut, Play Misty For Me (1971). I had it on VHS from taping it off of HBO or Cinemax back in the 1980s. I always enjoyed it as Jessica Walter gave a great performance as a psychotic fan of radio D.J. Eastwood.
From what I read of critics's reviews, watching the movie now (50 years later), the period clothing really dates it, but the movie itself holds up great. They are amused by the bellbottoms and loud early 70s clothes.
What I liked about it was that it is set in Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Eastwood, as many should recall, eventually was elected mayor of the city. I've always loved that area of Carmel and Monterey.
I'll watch Play Misty For Me Tomorrow evening.

My Winnebago Minnie Winnie 22R is on a Ford E350 chassis with a Triton 10 cylinder engine.
As a general rule, I have its engine oil changed every 5,000 miles even though I use synthetic oil. At the same time, I also have a trip-check done to make sure the engine is in top working order.
RV Life has posted an article on how often should an RV get an oil change.
They begin it with:
We are all aware of the importance of an RV oil change. Your RV engine oil is its lifeline. It allows for smooth operation and must be monitored for optimal performance.
Engine oils perform a very important role in lubricating moving engine components. Low oil levels or dirty or contaminated oil can lead to eventual or even immediate engine failure!
All manufacturers will have a recommended schedule and oil type, and it’s important to follow a regular RV oil change schedule.
When do you need to get an RV oil change?
The frequency of oil changes will depend on a few different factors. This includes the number of miles traveled combined with engine run time (think idling time for various reasons), the driving environment including towing vehicles, mountainous roads, or extreme temperatures, and engine age and condition.
The average suggested time between oil changes under normal circumstances is no more than 5,000 miles for traditional oils, and can be up to 15,000 miles for full synthetic oils.

A German actor who appeared with John Wayne in the film, Hatari! (1962) has passed away.

Hardy Krüger, the German actor who starred alongside John Wayne in Howard Hawks’ Hatari!, Laurence Olivier in Richard Attenborough’s A Bridge Too Far and Ryan O’Neal in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon, has died at his home in Palm Springs. He was 93.
Krüger died “suddenly and unexpectedly” on Wednesday, his German agency in Hamburg said in a statement, adding, “his warmth of heart, joie de vivre and his unshakable sense of justice will make him unforgettable.”
Born in Berlin in 1928, the child of ardent Nazis (in his 2016 autobiography, he said he was “raised to love Hitler”), Krüger made his film debut in The Young Eagles, a 1944 propagandist coming-of-age drama.

Tripadvisor has put out their top ten list of U.S. destinations.
Annually, Tripadvisor puts out their Travelers' Choice Awards. This is for 2022.
CBS Miami reported:
MIAMI (CBSMiami/CNN) – Congratulations to Miami Beach and Key West. They’ve made Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2022 for two of the best destinations in the U.S.
Las Vegas came in at number one, followed by Hawaii’s Oahu and Maui.
Key West was listed as America’s fourth most favorite city to visit. Miami Beach came in eighth.
Other cities in the top 10 were New York City, New Orleans, Nashville, Savannah, and Sedona, Arizona.

It is no surprise that His Fraudulency Joe Biden's approval poll numbers are plunging.
People are not happy with the high inflation, coronavirus, foreign policy fiasco in Afghanistan and the dropping financial markets.
According to an Associated Press report posted at AOL:
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Biden ends his first year in the White House with a clear majority of Americans for the first time disapproving of his handling of the presidency in the face of an unrelenting pandemic and roaring inflation, according to a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.
More Americans disapprove than approve of how Biden is handling his job as president, 56% to 43%. As of now, just 28% of Americans say they want Biden to run for re-election in 2024, including only 48% of Democrats.
Asked on Wednesday at a wide-ranging news conference about his flagging popularity, Biden responded, “I don't believe the polls.”
Americans are now seeing what an idiot Biden is and don't like what they see.
