The 50th anniversary of the December 14, 1963 Baldwin Hills Dam Disaster in Los Angeles comes one week from tomorrow.
It was back then that a hilltop reservoir wall gave way and flooded the Baldwin Hills neighborhood below it, killing several people.

I remember the KTLA Channel 5 telecopter live broadcasts of the reservoir wall's collapse. The video above shows what we all saw back then.
A commemoration will be held December 14 at the former dam site.

Wow. Great post. I have no memory at all of this event.
I remember it well. It flooded the parking lot of Viewpark Hospital in Baldwin Hills where I had my tonsils removed a few years before. - A.
