It is a little early for my monthly check on airfares from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Narita International Airport (NRT), but I thought I'd get the jump on it this month as I may be too busy to get around to it as we near Christmas.
Yesterday's Los Angeles Times Travel Section has round trip airfares from LAX to NRT at $1,171 to $1,359 (not counting taxes and other fees the airlines have been tacking on). I am beginning to wonder if they really do check these on a weekly basis (or even at all) as the prices shown are unchanged from the prices in November.
Then comes the fun part. I went to my favorite source for airline tickets, GatewayLAX, and they came up with this:
This was the lowest price if found for a departure of December 9 with a return on December 16. The price is a little bit higher than last month's, but still VERY reasonable (if you don't mind a layover in San Francisco and Seattle).
The cheapest non-stop was with American Airlines. Their price was $662.00 + tax + service fee. Not too bad, athough I have flown cheaper, and it still beats what the Los Angeles Times came up with.
