Above, the new Godzilla. Too fat? Poster by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. |
Once the word got out that Japanese Godzilla fans thought the new Warner Bros./Legendary Pictures Godzilla was "too fat" (I blogged about this April 29 here), the media has been having a field day in reporting the story.
Frankly, Godzilla has never been svelte (we don't count the Sony/TriStar fiasco of 1998), and the last several entries of Godzilla movies in the 1990s (known to fans as the Heisei Series), Godzilla looked like he had turned into a morbidly obese woman (at least from the waist down) with enormous thunder thighs.
One website, Glossynews.com, decided to have some fun with the gripes of Japanese fans with an article posted yesterday.
It begins with:
As the film Godzilla approaches it’s US May 16th debut, the grievance industry got started early when the internetz and blogosphere exploded late Friday after a new trailer of the movie was released by Warner Brothers.
Japanese fan groups accused the current WB depiction of the monster as being “too fat” and “supersized like a #1 at McDonalds.”I sent the article to a friend, who probably never saw a Godzilla movie in her life but plans to see this one, who had this reaction:
Great spoof! "Do these scales make my butt look big?" comes to mind. ;-)To read what they have to say on the subject, go here.
