Now that the summer vacation season has started, the news from Tokyo on the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and Japanese yen couldn't have come at a better time.
The dollar is now just over 101 yen, which is the best in several weeks.
Although it has been a slow climb, the dollar's rise is great news for people who are considering a vacation this summer to Japan.
The only "fly in the ointment" is the seasonal price rise of airfares to Japan. But, if one is patient enough and takes the time to look around, bargains can still be found.
Just right now, I found round-trip tickets to Narita International Airport (NRT) from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) for $768.00 (not including taxes or fees) aboard Delta Airlines with a July 20 departure and an August 3 return (dates I picked at random) through GatewayLAX ticket agency. The price was for one stop, so if you don't mind a layover to save money (anywhere between $200-$800 and up), this may be just the thing for you. I've seen some fare prices of over $3,500 for a round-trip!
