Regarding the current scandal over the $663,000 salary (and perks) Centinela Valley Union High School District Superintendent Jose Fernandez, I posted this at our high school alumni message board:
Superintendent Jose Fernandez wouldn't be getting his fat $663,000 salary were it not for the generosity of the school board. Let's not forget his sweetheart $900,000 loan at 2% for 40 years. Gee, all that money could be going to the sports department and other departments in need of funding. It's the same-old, same-old political machine politics in Hawthorne. Looks like the jackasses on the school board didn't learn anything from the scandal in the City of Bell.
Back in the 1980s, a recall campaign was launched against three Hawthorne City Council members for consolidating city elections and thereby increasing their terms of office without voter approval. The campaign was successful and the three were ousted.
It appears that the time is ripe for another recall campaign against the school district board members who approved Fernandez's salary, perks and loan. Unless these board members are recalled, the taxpayers will continue to be fleeced.
