For those who love looking at historical photographs of a century ago and Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Fork Herald posted some photos of Yellowstone around the years 1915 and 1925.
They begin their article accompanying the photographs with:
Fifteen years ago, a man walked in to a small-town South Dakota weekly newspaper office lugging a heavy box that was literally bulging at the sides. The dusty container had been stashed in the attic of an old house.
"I don't know what to do with this," he said, "but maybe you do. You can have it."
Inside? Old photo negatives, measuring 5 inches by 7 inches, made of thin, fragile glass. Some of the negatives were damaged; some were pristine.
When developed, the negatives show the usual images of life — family portraits, for instance — but the gem of the box was a series of photos of a trip to Yellowstone, likely in the years between 1915 and 1925.
