Gladstone's To Shut Down

Sad news.

It has been reported that Gladstone's 4 Fish in Pacific Palisades on Pacific Coast Highway will be going out-of-business.

Classic Hollywood/Los Angeles/SFV Facebook page posted the following:

GLADSTONE'S RESTAURANT located in Malibu has announced they will be closing their doors on September 15th.  The building is scheduled for demolition at a later date. In its place, a new eatery will be built with renowned chef Wolfgang Puck as one of the investors.

Before moving to New Mexico five years ago, I used to frequent Gladstone's 4 Fish quite often. First with Denise Santos and then with Asya Lipovetckaia. The earliest I recall going there was back in 1993 with former co-worker Robyn Hinsley. It first opened in 1972.

Deadline reported:
After a half-century, it looks like the landmark Gladstone’s restaurant in Pacific Palisades is apparently ending its run.

The oceanside restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway is expected to close in October, according to a report. Los Angeles County is the owner of the land and is seeking a long-term lease with new tenants.

This isn’t the first time Gladstone’s has been under fire. The restaurant was reported to be in jeopardy as far back as 2016. However, it managed to weather that crisis and continue on.

The restaurant was owned at one point by former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. He died in April of this year. It is unclear if his estate is behind the move to end its run.
The place had great seafood and great ocean views. It is sad that it will soon be history.

Los Angeles County seems hell-bent on eliminating L.A. institutions. They got rid of the Griffith Park pony rides earlier this year and now this. Rat bastards! (And that's putting it kindly.)
