NMSSA Legislative Update 2/5

Both HB129 and SB204 were not heard today and instead moved to the Wednesday, 2/7, meetings of their respective committees. No gun control bills were heard on the House or Senate Floors either today. If you weren't able to make it out to our rally on Saturday, here is a video recap

The Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing HB129, the 7-day firearm purchase waiting period bill on Wednesday 2/7. The bill was amended down to 7 days on the House Floor. They only gave the bill one committee assignment on the Senate side, so this will be the last chance to testify on the bill. The meeting is scheduled for 1/2 hour after the afternoon Senate Floor session in Room 321 (zoom link).

On Wednesday, 2/7, the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee will be hearing SB204, the parks and playgrounds gun ban. The meeting is scheduled for 1/2 hour after the afternoon Senate Floor Session in Room 311 (zoom link).

Also on Wednesday, 2/7, the House Judiciary Committee will be hearing HB144. The bill would create a state "Office of Gun Violence Prevention," that would enable them to launder your tax dollars to gun control groups who lobby against your rights. That meeting is scheduled for 1:30pm in Room 309 (zoom link).

There are still several bills waiting for votes on the House Floor. While we will not have a chance to testify on the bills on the floor, we must keep up the pressure against the bills before any vote takes place. We update the recipients of the following pre-written emails as the bills move through committees, so please continue to use them to contact legislators: Oppose HB27Oppose HB114Oppose HB 127Oppose HB129Oppose HB137Oppose SB5Oppose SB69Oppose SB90Oppose SB204, and Oppose SJR12.
