Tried Out The Hornady LEVERevolution .30-30 Ammo

One thing I wanted to accomplish during yesterday's target shooting was to try out some rounds of the Hornady LEVERevolution.30-30 soft points. I bought a box last year.

I started with normal "flat-nosed" .30-30 cartridges, then I tried out three of the soft points. I noticed no difference in the handling or performance of the cartridges. They worked just fine in my 1962 Winchester 94. Loading the rifle with them was no problem either.

I decided to just try out three of the cartridges since they are a little on the expensive side. I did more shooting with the inexpensive .22 ammo in my Winchester 62A. 

Finally Tried A Laguna Burger

Last night, I went to bed early. Instead of getting extra sleep, I ended up getting up early. Oh, well.

I did try out the famous Laguna Burger for dinner (the burger originated in the Pueblo of Laguna) and it is quite good, but not on a par with a Tommy chili burger or an In-N-Out burger, but very close. I got it at the Rio Puerco 66 Pit Stop that is across Interstate 40 from the Route 66 Casino Hotel. The hotel's shuttle goes to the 66 Pit Stop.

Their regular cheeseburger has a half pound of Angus beef, but since my heart attack and resulting stents two years ago, I have drastically curtailed red meats. I only have red meat on occasion and this was just an occasion.

So, instead of the half pound patty, I opted for the 1/3 pound patty cheeseburger. Even that was more than sufficient for me. It took me a while to finish it.

Along with the Angus beef, it had lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickles, onions and green chile pepper slices. Chile peppers in a burger? Well, New Mexico is the "chile capital of the world". It was quite good and I tasted the chile peppers for about an hour after finishing. It is definitely was worth a try.

...and It Decides To Rain!

The chaise lounge I ordered from Wayfair arrived today.

UPS was the delivery company and, like they did with the gas tank for the Jeep, delivered it next door. It seems that their driver isn't too bright as the neighbor's address is plainly visible at his gate.

I had to go over and get it. But before I did, I took off in the Jeep and found the truck up the hill. Needless to say, I have the driver a good chewing out.

Since I had nothing else to do today, I decided to put the lounge together.

When I ordered it, Wayfair had listed the product as requiring "partial assembly". But, when I got it out of the box, the whole thing had to be assembled. Why can't people order stuff that doesn't require assembly with easy to read instructions? Why can't Wayfair give accurate information on products? The instructions are terrible, just diagrams and very little directions to read.

I got most of it assembled when a thunderstorm decided to arrive in the area. I put most everything away and headed into the house as it began to rain big drops. Before the storm arrived, I was harrassed by gnats. Looks like we're in gnat season for about 2 weeks. Good thing I keep a can of insect repellent in a cigar box on the patio table.

The last major part of the assembly is the crossbar at the foot of the lounge. It will require two people to stretch the fabric to allow for attaching the crossbar.

When all is said and done, I intend to give this item a poor review. I was expecting better.

Gripeez - An "As Seen On TV" Rip-off!

There's an old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is."

That is an appropriate description of Gripeez, a product that is advertised on television that would hold pictures or other objects on walls and other surfaces around five pounds. And, they would leave no marks on walls when they are removed.

When I saw the ads, I thought those would be good for hanging pictures in the motorhome. Since the advertised price was only $10.00 (plus shipping and handling), I ordered some.

They arrived within a couple of weeks and I set out to give them a try.

The Gripeez set included five small plastic hooks and five large plastic hooks. For the heck of it, I hung a large hook on the bathroom door of the motorhome with one Gripeez pad. I followed the directions on using them and hung the hook on the door. It seemed to hold pretty well.

Next, I hung three 5 x 7" pictures and one 8 x 10" picture (all way below five pounds in weight). Within minutes, the 8 x 10" fell and broke the frame on a corner (it was repairable with Crazy Glue). Later, the other photos fell off the wall and the hook fell off the door.

Talk about a major disappointment.

Gripeez, I regret to say, was a total waste of money (enough money to buy cheap lunches for two at McDonalds) and a rip-off. It was a good thing they didn't cost much.

I ended up using Velcro on adhesive strips instead (I already had a supply of them) for hanging the pictures.

Save your money and don't buy Gripeez!
