Behind The "007" Flap

Above, the Spectre poster.

Many hardcore James Bond fans got their panties in a bunch when word got out that there would be a new 007, a black woman.

The rumors behind this went all over the place with some people thinking that Eon Productions is turning James Bond a woman in the new movie now in production. Talk about silliness!

Now dubbed James Bond 25, here's a brief, but "official", story synopsis:
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
Because James Bond (Daniel Craig, presumably in his last Bond outing) has retired from active service with MI6, his agent number 007 had been reassigned to a woman agent. Even this little plot device has gotten some hardcore Bond fans in a tizzy. This will obviously be temporary and James Bond will get his number back eventually, either when the new 007 either surrenders it back to him, resigns from MI6 service or gets killed. This really doesn't bother me.

It appears that Bond had resigned at the end of Spectre and ran off with Dr. Madeleine Swann to Jamaica. It is nice to see that Léa Seydoux is returning to reprise her role as Swann.

According to IMDb, the movie is set to be released on April 8, 2020.
