The "gateway to Graceland", Elvis Presley Blvd., is getting a $40 million makeover and the long-planned project got started yesterday.
According to the Memphis Commercial Appeal:
The gateway to Graceland is getting a long-awaited makeover.
A phased project that will bring improvements to a three-mile stretch of Elvis Presley Boulevard in Whitehaven over the next few years has faced obstacles and delays, but Memphis officials kicked off its start on Thursday.
The work will move along the corridor from Brooks Road, just south of I-55, to Shelby Drive, and calls for roadway and streetscape improvements, traffic signals, street lighting, drainage, sidewalks, crosswalks, signage, bike lanes and other changes that will make the area "more usable, walkable and bikeable," Public Works Director Robert Knecht said.
