The blaze today at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris shocked many around the world.
It is probable that the cause of the fire was related to the renovation work that was taking place. Fortunately, the structure and its two bell towers were spared.
A lot of work will have to be done to restore the cathedral, which is what the French government has pledged to do.
I would hazard a guess that every nook and cranny, down to every finite detail, has been recorded so that all parts can be rebuilt.
As for the priceless art that was inside, some may have been rescued. It is still too early for a full assessment of the damage.
Fortunately, no lives were lost. It could have been much worse.
I first heard about the fire while listening to Rush Limbaugh. He noted that many Christian churches in France were being desecrated. Hopefully, this isn't one of them.
