It is hard to imagine sometimes on how time flies.

Two things of note occurred on this date 42 years ago.

Above, former President Richard Nixon and Duke.

It was on June 11, 1979 that I started my career in insurance claims with United Pacific/Reliance Insurance Companies in Los Angeles on Shatto Street. The building is now occupied by the Chinese consulate.

It was also on June 11, 1979 that screen legend John Wayne passed away from stomach cancer at the UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. No sooner than when I stepped inside the front door at home, my mom flatly said, "Wayne died."

It was not unexpected, but sad news nonetheless.
