High Winds, Rain and Snow Showers

Above, the Jeep at the Six Mile Canyon windmill last July. The canyon
road is now closed to vehicles until March 31. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

It's a good thing that I went to bed an hour and a half early last night.

The winds have kicked up and is making a lot of noise outside. Plus, we're supposed to get rain and possibly snow showers.

We're under a High Wind Warning with gusts as high as 45 m.p.h.

Luckily for me, the Mustang's repairs were completed yesterday and I picked it up during the afternoon. So I don't have to deal with it today. I do have to take a friend into Gallup for his medical appointments, but it is in his vehicle with a good-running heater.

As today is December 15, Six Mile Canyon of the Cibola National Forest is now closed to vehicles for the winter until March 31, 2022.

According to the National Weather Service:

 Overnight

Rain, possibly mixed with snow. Patchy blowing snow after 5am. Low around 25. Windy, with a southwest wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Wednesday
A 40 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 8am. Patchy blowing snow before 8am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 37. Windy, with a west wind 20 to 30 mph decreasing to 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
