When I arrived home from Albuquerque yesterday, I found that Mike, my next-door neighbor, had more horses in the pen with Buddy.
Mike said that the three horses (all female) were yearlings or a little older and were wild horse on the Navajo Nation. He was just going to get one, but he saw the other two looking pitiful and he ended up getting the three. The deal he got for them was one he couldn't refuse.
The one he intended to get is the friendliest of the three. She doesn't mind human contact. The other two are very skittish and will need work to tame.
Today, I went over with carrots. Buddy, who has come a long way since a year ago, comes right up to me now for his carrots. The new horses probably never seen carrots before and they wouldn't take any, even after tossing carrots to them. But they didn't go to waste, Buddy gobbled them up.
I said to Mike, "Poor Buddy! Now that he has a harem, he can't do anything about it!" (He's been gelded.)
Buddy will be going for more training and he's leaving this weekend.
Here's some photos of the new horses:
