Springtime To Visit A Quieter Yellowstone

During the late spring of 2015, my daughter and I took a trip to Yellowstone National Park.

The park had people in it, but it wasn't the massive crowds that the full summer season would bring. It was enjoyable since we took two tours with a private tour company based in West Yellowstone, Montana. We camped at a KOA Kampground there as well and the tour company picked us up for each tour in front of the campground's office.

In contrast, a friend and I went into Yellowstone in July 2019 (I wasn't planning on going there as I knew it would be a zoo, and it was). The crowds were massive and I couldn't wait to leave. We just went to Old Faithful Geyer and left after viewing an eruption.

Springtime is a quieter time to visit Yellowstone and the Wyoming Tribune has an article on it.

They begin with:

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — A stone's throw from Yellowstone National Park sits the small border town of West Yellowstone, which is usually either buried in snow or swarmed by tourists. But at the end of April, the streets are quiet and locals can peacefully read newspapers on coffee shop porticos.

It's also a quieter time in the park, with most services closed and some roads still inaccessible. And for some, that's the best time to be there.

Lindsey Higgins and her fiancé Devin West had a front row seat to Old Faithful recently though the front row options were limitless. There were less than a hundred people at the afternoon eruption, which was just as tall and spectacular as ever.
