Gee, I'm sorry I missed this.

60 Minutes on CBS last night had a story on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), more commonly known as UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects).

CBS News reported:

This week on 60 Minutes, correspondent Bill Whitaker reported on unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAPs, more commonly known as UFOs.

Whitaker interviewed two former Navy pilots, Cmdr. Dave Fravor and Lt. Cmdr. Alex Dietrich, who said they witnessed something "unsettling" and unexplainable while flying over the Pacific Ocean in November 2004. Fravor is a graduate of the TOPGUN naval flight program. He was a commander of the F/A-18F squadron on the USS Nimitz at the time of the encounter.

Dietrich, a former F/A-18F pilot, has never before spoken publicly about what she saw that day. 

"It was unidentified. And that's why it was so unsettling to us. Because we weren't expecting it. We couldn't classify it," said Dietrich.

No Commercial Passenger Jet Crashes In 2017

For some reason, when I first read this story, my mind immediately flashed back to the movie Airplane! (1980) where a parody of 60 Minutes' "Point/Counterpoint" had the liberal and conservative debaters discuss the possible crash of the jet.

The "conservative" said:

They knew what they were getting into [or something like that]. I say, let it crash!

This should be great news for people who are deathly afraid to fly in a commercial jet.

The Independent (U.K.) reported:

In a year when more people flew to more places than ever, 2017 was the safest on record for airline passengers. 

The Dutch-based aviation consultancy, To70, has released its Civil Aviation Safety Review for 2017. It reports only two fatal accidents, both involving small turbo-prop aircraft, with a total of 13 lives lost.  

No jets crashed in passenger service anywhere in the world.

Have You Noticed...?

Taking a cue from the late Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes, have you noticed how newspapers have shrunken in size but the price per copy has gone up?

I took a look at a couple of newspaper racks this morning while at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

The first one was of the China Daily (if memory serves). Its price was 25 cents. Next to it was the Los Angeles Times. Its price was $2.00.

$2.00 for a newspaper?! And a shrunken one at that!

What's the world coming to?

Reagan On Fascism and Liberalism

In 1975, former Governor Ronald Reagan gave an interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes. In the interview, Reagan said:

“I think that the heart of my philosophy is much more libertarianism,” Reagan states in the 60 Minutes Overtime interview. “Always has been.” 

“How do we call a liberal?” he poses. “Someone very profoundly once said, many years ago, that if fascism ever comes to America it will come in the name of liberalism.” 

Reagan then defines fascism as “private ownership, private enterprise but total government control and regulation.” 

“Well isn’t this the liberal philosophy?” he continues. 

“The conservative so-called is the one that says less government, get off my back, get out of my pocket and let me have more control of my destiny.”

Reagan Was Right: Today's "Liberals" Are Actually Fascists

Definition of fascism 

1 often capitalized :  a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

Today's so-called liberals are railing against the election results of last November. They are using the tactics of the Brown Shirts of Nazi Germany against anyone who have a different political philosophy than theirs by rioting, assaulting and beating people, denying invited speakers at universities the right to exercise free speech. They have turned the mainstream media into a propaganda machine for their cause. What they are today are fascists. The above definition describes them exactly.

MIke Wallace Dies At 93

The world of television journalism lost one of the giants of the industry.

 Fox News reported:

CBS newsman Mike Wallace, the dogged, merciless reporter and interviewer who took on politicians, celebrities and other public figures in a 60-year career highlighted by the on-air confrontations that helped make "60 Minutes" the most successful primetime television news program ever, has died. He was 93. 

Wallace died Saturday night, CBS spokesman Kevin Tedesco said. On CBS' "Face the Nation," host Bob Schieffer said Wallace died at a care facility in New Haven, Connecticut, where he had lived in recent years.

Don Hewitt, Creator of 60 Minutes, Dies

Don Hewitt, who created 60 Minutes for CBS and produced the first Nixon-Kennedy Debate in 1960, has died of cancer at age 86.

USA Today.com reports:

60 Minutes creator Don Hewitt has died, CBS says. Network spokesman Kevin Tedesco confirmed the death of Hewitt, 86, who this year had been diagnosed with a small, contained tumor.

Hewitt created 60 Minutes in 1968, pioneering the TV newsmagazine format. He served as executive producer of the program until his retirement in 2004.

Hewitt has been honored with the second annual Lifetime Achievement Emmy presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 1995, he was awarded the Founders Emmy by the International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
