Democrats Gun Control Bill: Federal License Needed To Buy One

The Democrats are at it again with highly unconstitutional gun control legislation (not that they've ever stopped) in the U.S. senate.

Senate Democrats introduced a strict new gun control bill on Thursday that would require all Americans to obtain a five-year federal firearm license before purchasing a single gun. The bill also authorizes the government to confiscate an individual’s guns if the license is revoked.

The Federal Firearm Licensing Act would force Americans to undergo firearm safety training — including a written test and hands-on training — in order to receive a license. Gun buyers would also be required to complete a criminal background check, submit fingerprints and proof of identity, and be over the age of 21.

The bill would also force gun buyers to disclose “identifying information on the firearm that the person intends to obtain, including the make, model, and serial number, and the identity of the firearm seller or transferor.”

Georgia Democrat Senate Candidate Supports Semi-Auto Ban and "High Capacity" Magazine Ban

Right now, the GOP is maintaining control of the U.S. Senate (thank God, for it is a buffer against radical leftist legislation originating from the House of Representatives).

All that could change if the two senate seats up for election (one a runoff and one a special election) go to the Democrats.

The candidate in the runoff campaign is an anti-Second Amendment leftist (although he says he "supports" the Second Amendment).

According to American Military News:

Jon Ossoff, a candidate for one of Georgia’s two runoff senate elections, said on his campaign website that he supports a ban on semi-automatic rifles, which he referred to as “assault weapons,” and a ban on “high-capacity magazines,” as well as “red flag” confiscation laws.

Ossoff stated in his gun policy platform, “I support the Second Amendment and I respect the overwhelming majority of gun owners who recognize that guns aren’t toys; they are lethal and dangerous tools.” Ossoff then listed a number of gun policy proposals he supports, including the ban on semi-automatic rifles and magazines over a certain capacity.

Ossoff is headed for a runoff election with, Sen. David Purdue (R-GA) on Jan. 5, 2021. The runoff race comes after Purdue led with 49.7 percent of the vote to Ossoff’s 48 percent of the vote. Georgia’s election laws require a candidate to run a majority of votes to win a race outright, otherwise, the race goes to a runoff. The race between Purdue and Ossoff is taking place while Georgia’s other Senate seat is also headed to a runoff after a special election.

“I support a ban on the sale of semi-automatic rifles (“assault weapons”) and high-capacity magazines to the general public,” Ossoff said in his gun policy platform. However, he did not describe what capacity qualifies gun magazines to be “high-capacity.”

As if that's really going to fly in Georgia. But you never know in this wacky year.

NM "Red Flag Law" In American Military News

The news that Gov. "Malevolent Michelle" Lujan Grisham signed the "red flag" bill into law is meandering its way in many news outlets.

The latest is the American Military News.

They wrote:

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a new gun control measure into law, allowing courts to temporarily confiscate firearms from non-criminal individuals identified as a risk of harming themselves or others. Grisham also told law enforcement that they must enforce the new law, or consider resignation. 

Grisham signed the Extreme Risk Firearm Protection Order Act on Tuesday, CNN reported. A total of 17 other states have already signed some form of extreme risk protective orders, commonly referred to as “red flag” laws, into effect. New Mexico will become the 18th state with a “red flag” law on its books. 

“The Legislature had the strength to pass this measure because we all recognize: Enough is enough,” Grisham said in a statement. “This law is sensible and balanced. It is a good public safety measure. If it saves even one life, and it will, we will have done good work here.” 

The “red flag” legislation was a key priority for Grisham and she insisted that law enforcement officials carry out the confiscatory orders despite their objections. 

“They cannot not enforce,” Grisham said before signing the law into effect. “And if they really intend to do that, they should resign as a law enforcement officer and leader in that community.”

Opponents of the measure, including both gun rights advocates and law enforcement officers, have claimed the law does not allow for due process. 

Tony Mace, the head of the New Mexico Sheriffs’ Association, warned in a weekend letter that the law does not allow gun owners to defend themselves when police initially arrive to enforce a confiscation order. 

“Citizens have a right to bear arms and we cannot circumvent that right when they have not even committed a crime or even been accused of committing one,” Mace wrote. “‘Shall not be infringed’ is a very clear and concise component of an Amendment that our forefathers felt was important enough to be recognized immediately following freedom of speech and religion.”

Earlier in February, hundreds of gun rights activists rallied at the New Mexico capital in Santa Fe, in opposition to the proposed legislation. Thirty of 33 of Santa Fe’s sheriffs had opposed the legislation and several were present during the protest.

It is ironic that Malevolent Michelle says that the sheriffs who won't enforce the "red flag" law should resign. If anyone should resign, it is the Governor. If she cannot uphold her oath of office and defend the constitutions of the U.S. and New Mexico, she should be the one to resign.
