There comes the beginning of the loss of our financial freedom unless we stop it.

I have blogged about the pitfalls of a digital currency system before. 

CNBC posted on March 15:

The Federal Reserve’s digital payments system, which it promises will help speed up the way money moves, will debut in July.

FedNow, as it will be known, will create “a leading-edge payments system that is resilient, adaptive, and accessible,” said Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin, who is the program’s executive sponsor.

The system will allow bill payments, money transfers such as paychecks and disbursements from the government, as well as a host of other consumer activities to move more rapidly and at lower cost, according to the program’s goals.

Participants will complete a training and certification process in early April, according to a Fed announcement.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted a response to this yesterday. I don't see anything in what he said to disagree with.

 

Caroline Kennedy ought to award her cousin a Profile In Courage Award for speaking the truth of this scheme.

Something's Wrong With This Article

I was reading the Christian Science Monitor's online news article on Ambassador Caroline Kennedy's arrival in Japan when I spotted an error.

Can you spot it?

Here's the passage that contains the error:

The surviving member of the Kennedy presidential family highlighted this historical link when she landed in Tokyo, noting that because of her father’s plans in particular “it is a special honor for me to be able to work to strengthen the close ties between our two great countries.” 

Kennedy, who is expected to present her credentials to Emperor Hirohito on Nov. 19, noted that her arrival coincides with “the 50th anniversary of my father’s presidency.” Nov. 22 marks a half-century since President Kennedy’s assassination.

UPDATE: Emperor Hirohito (known now as Emperor Showa) died in 1989. The reigning monarch now is his son Emperor Akihito (Emperor Heisei). It would be an interesting trick for Caroline to present her credentials to Emperor Hirohito, wouldn't it?

Japan's Next U.S. Ambassador

It appears that Caroline Kennedy will be confirmed the next U.S. ambassador to Japan.

According to The Japan Times:

WASHINGTON – Caroline Kennedy says she hopes to carry on the legacy of her slain father, John F. Kennedy, by serving as U.S ambassador to Japan, pledging to work for closer bilateral ties. 

The Senate panel appeared virtually certain to confirm Kennedy, meaning she would head to Tokyo ahead of the 50th anniversary Nov. 22 of her father’s assassination. She was five days short of her sixth birthday at the time. 

“This appointment has a special significance as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of my father’s presidency,” she said. “I would be humbled to carry forward his legacy in a small way and represent the powerful bonds that unite our two democratic societies.”

While no senators opposed Kennedy’s nomination, several American foreign policy experts have criticized her, saying she has little experience at a time when Japan is experiencing high tensions with a rising China, South Korea and bellicose North Korea.

I, too, have my misgivings about this appointment, given her lack of experience. But since it is a foregone conclusion that she will be confirmed, I wish her success.

Caroline Kennedy Japan Ambassadorship Nomination: "Anata ga shitte iru."

President Barack Obama has not very well distinguished himself in the field of foreign policy (well, he hasn't distinguished himself in domestic policy either). He has made a mess out of Libya (Benghazi is a prime case in point), exited Iraq too quickly and leaving it in a mess and plans on doing the same thing in Afghanistan. Screw-ups in Egypt and Syria. The list goes on and on.

His nomination of Caroline Kennedy is another potential Obama screw up. In The Japan News, David Rothkopf, CEO and editor-at-large of Foreign Policy, writes:

Early in 2008, back in the days when Barack Obama was hardly a shoo-in to be the Democratic nominee for president, Kennedy penned a piece for The New York Times called “A President Like My Father.” In it, she described Obama as a man who could inspire a new generation of Americans as her father, President John F. Kennedy, had inspired a previous generation. It provided Obama with a big boost and, along with the support he received from Sen. Edward Kennedy, gave the candidate the imprimatur of the political-celebrity wing of the Democratic establishment--a leg up in his tight race against then-Sen. Hillary Clinton. 

Other than writing this op-ed, Kennedy has not the slightest hint of a qualification to be ambassador to Japan. Trained as a lawyer, she has led a worthy life of dedication to family charities, other nonprofit organizations and writing. But she has no particular experience with Japan, no experience with diplomacy or foreign affairs, and no government experience. Hers is a nomination that reflects more on the president’s views toward the diplomatic service and by extension the entire Department of State than it does on anything she has ever done or shown interest in doing. It also by extension illustrates the ever-growing centrality of the White House and more importantly the president himself to the conduct of U.S. international relations.

Japan is too important to have the United States represented by such a novice. As I mentioned in an earlier blog post on the Kennedy nomination, I know of several G-fans who are more qualified than Kennedy is and with much more Japan experience.

When she wanted to be considered for an appointment to Hillary Clinton's U.S. Senate seat from New York, Kennedy stumbled with her inarticulate speaking that was peppered with "you knows" throughout.

Well, if she does get confirmed as U.S. Ambassador to Japan, she can start learning to say "you know" in Japanese. It is, "Anata ga shitte iru."*

Caroline Kennedy To Become U.S. Ambassador To Japan, You Know?

Kyodo News is reporting:

Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy and a strong backer of President Barack Obama, will become ambassador to Japan, sources close to Japan-U.S. relations said Friday.

Is Caroline Kennedy the best we have to become U.S. ambassador to Japan?!  She really dazzled the world a few years ago when she wanted to be appointed to the United States Senate.  She couldn't articulate her way out of a paper bag!

Hell, I and many others in kaiju fandom are more qualified to be ambassador to Japan than she is.

How do you say "You know?" in Japanese?

Yeesh!
