Current Value of Mexican Gold and Silver Coins

When I opened my dad's strongbox that hadn't been opened for over 23 years (I had no key), inside was a Mexican silver coin. It was a 1953 Hildago Silver Commemorative 5 peso coin. Until I did some checking after finding it, I did not know what it was. There were other Mexican coins inside the strongbox, but were not made of silver.

I was reminded of this find when I saw an article this morning (from Saturday) on the current value of Mexican gold and silver coins at Breaking Latest News.

Silver's Role In Mexico's History and Future

Did you know that Mexico is the world's main exporter of silver? Yes, it's true. Mexico produced over 135 million ounces of refined silver in 2022.

Mexico News Daily posted an article on silver's role in Mexico's history and may well play a big role in its future.

Prized equally on both sides of the Atlantic, Tenochtitlán overlords demanded the metal as tribute from places like Taxco, Guerrero, long before the Spanish arrived.

When conquistador Hernán Cortés entered the capital, Moctezuma hoped to placate him with gifts, including large quantities of gold and silver. However, the strategy backfired, making the Spanish more determined to take over.

Although Mexico did (and does) have gold, its vast deposits of silver have been central to its history and economy since.
