Proposition 13 Repeal On The Horizon By Democrats?

The word is out that the Democrats in California have their eyes on repealing, in whole or in part, Proposition 13.

Proposition 13 was overwhelmingly passed by the voters in 1978 to put a cap on property taxes. Prior to its passage, people were virtually being taxed out of their homes.

As one person put it at the CA Exodus and Ex-CAers Facebook page put it:

California is doomed if this happens - mass exodus without a doubt!

If this is the case, the exodus of people fleeing Commiefornia will explode into a flood. And, if a repeal measure is put on the ballot, it would be deceitfully disguised.

Property Tax

One great benefit in moving out of California and its high property taxes (despite Prop. 13) and into New Mexico is the low property taxes.

I got my property tax bills about a couple of weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised.

The taxes for the "Barking Spider" acre, where the GOCO Beast Barn sits, is under $100. The taxes for the acre that the house and garage sits on is under $500. I just paid the lower amount and will pay the other early next week.

If I were to own the same property in California, the property taxes would be many times the New Mexico amount. Small wonder people are finding Commiefornia to be unaffordable and are making a mass exodus out.

Sometimes the grass is actually greener on the other side.

Why Students Are Being Screwed

The subject came up at our high school alumni feedback forum on the state of education in California and why some schools have cut bands, sports and shops (wood, metal and auto).

Naturally, liberals like to point the finger at Prop. 13.
