"The Quiet Man" Euro Note

One of Hollywood's most beloved films is being commemorated as a €0 note from Euro Note Souvenir.

According to IrishCentral:

“The Quiet Man,” the beloved 1952 film which helped forever shape the world’s view of Ireland, is being memorialized in a new €0 note released by Euro Note Souvenir. 

The iconic image of John Wayne as Sean Thornton scooping up Maureen O'Hara as MaryKate Danaher is featured on the front of the collector's item, the newest in a series of Irish-themed collectibles from Euro Note Souvenir. 

The souvenir note has been officially licensed by the European Central Bank and is printed by Oberthur, the French facility that prints the Euro.  

It has the look and feel of a Euro, along with a watermark, holographic protection, and UV-responsive tactile marks. Only 5,000 copies of the note are being produced.

Yesterday

Yesterday was (somewhat) a typical Sunday.

It started with the usual laundry chore. And then, following that, I drove the Jeep over to the GOCO Beast Barn to do some maintenance on it and The Beast inside (including starting and running the engine).

Once that all was done, I took a drive around the community and the road near the shooting area. Unfortunately, due to the idiotic and selfish people who were using the range (it is open to anyone), I had to have one of the big wooden spools we use as tables moved back to its normal position. They moved it and were using it as a target stand (more about it in this blog post).

Thanks to an assist by my neighbor Mike, the problem was resolved and I continued with my drive. We'll have to patrol the shooting area more often, it seems.

Since Tuesday is St. Patrick's Day, I watched the John Wayne classic, The Quiet Man (1952, the same age as my Jeep) while having dinner.

It will be interesting to see what "adventures" this week will bring.

Best Storm So Far

It was a good thing that I barbecued my t-bone steak when I did, because about 45 minutes after finishing dinner, a thunderstorm rolled into the area and cut loose with downpours, lightning and thunderclaps for hours.

Actually, I enjoyed the "light show" the lightning provided. Sierra didn't appreciate it at all.

The water from the storm was welcome in the area as the winter did not provide much water. Drought conditions exist.

It had been predicted the New Mexico will have a good monsoon season and, so far, the prediction is coming true.

As for me, when I wasn't out watching the lightning, I was inside watching The Quiet Man.

More thunderstorms are expected this afternoon.

Screen Legend Maureen O'Hara Dies At 95

Hollywood screen legend Maureen O'Hara has died. 

O'Hara was probably my favorite actress from the golden era of Hollywood and beyond. The chemistry she had with John Wayne was perfect in such films as The Quiet Man and McLintock!

She handled both drama and comedy with great ease.

USA Today reported:

LOS ANGELES - Maureen O’Hara, the flame-haired Irish movie star who appeared in classics ranging from the grim How Green Was My Valley to the uplifting Miracle on 34th Street and bantered unforgettably with John Wayne in several films has died. She was 95. 

O’Hara died in her sleep at her home in Boise, Idaho, said Johnny Nicoletti, her longtime manager. 

“She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family as they celebrated her life listening to music from her favorite movie, The Quiet Man,” said a statement from her family.

Fortunately for us, we will always have Maureen O'Hara as her films will live forever.
