Cooler But Windy In Lake Havasu

The RV is rocking right now. Those of you with dirty minds, it isn't what you may be thinking.

It is windy in Lake Havasu City. And, it is also 72° outside.

A wind advisory for the city will be in place until 5:00 this afternoon. At least it will be cooler today.

According to the National Weather Service:

Overnight

Patchy blowing dust. Clear, with a steady temperature around 71. Breezy, with a north northwest wind around 26 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

Wednesday

Patchy blowing dust before 11am. Sunny, with a high near 80. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 21 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph.

Wednesday Night

Clear, with a low around 63. North northwest wind 8 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

Thursday

Sunny, with a high near 85. Northwest wind 11 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Today At The Southern New Mexico State Fair

Today, I spent three and a half hours at the Southern New Mexico State Fair in Las Cruces.

I spent much of my time in the livestock area where judging was taking place on goats, pigs and sheep. I also roamed the different pavilions of poultry and rabbits and the pens where cattle, pigs, goats and sheep were kept. I was disappointed not to see any horses. I guess we can't have anything.

The area where the rides are wasn't open, not that I was going on any.

One pavilion contained model railroad sets. The biggest was in 'N' gauge and quite elaborate. Another pavilion had Coleman lanterns and stoves dating back to the 1900s. That was interesting.

The few photos here was from my phone camera. I have to upload the photos from my Canon camera either tonight or tomorrow. I will be attending the rodeo tonight. That starts at 7:00.

After the fair, I went in to Mesilla for lunch at the Cafe de Mesilla. I had an excellent chicken enchilada lunch. Following that, I went back to the KOA to rest up for a few hours.

So far, it has been an enjoyable day.

Melting Snow and Animal Tracks

While putting the trash container on the side of the road for tomorrow's pick up, I noticed a number of different animal tracks in the remaining snow at Barking Spider Acre.

So I took a walk over to take a closer look.

Some were cat and dog tracks (I saw some dogs chasing a cat there the other day). There were some rabbit tracks (we have cottontails and jackrabbits here). Some looked like either deer or elk tracks (we have both in the area). It was hard to tell what they were days old and the melting snow distorted them.

Warmer Than Yesterday

Yesterday was spent indoors as the temperature in Jamestown didn't go any higher than 39°. We had a brief, but very light, dusting of snow yesterday morning. Some fell while several of us were driving to the Flying J for our usual coffee gathering at Denny's.

At least today will be a little warmer.

I'll be heading into Gallup today to pick up some groceries, some for tomorrow's monthly dinner gathering at Martin Link's.

The next chance of precipitation will be around Thanksgiving Day.

The Bi-County Fair

Today, I decided to head over to nearby (26 miles) Prewitt, New Mexico for the annual Bi-County Fair.

It was a nice, sunny day with a few clouds and temperatures in the mid-80s.

When I arrived, I passed the entrance and had to turn around. It consisted of a small dirt road. To say that this was the smallest fair I've ever been to could almost be an understatement. Perhaps the Hawthorne (California) Community Fair (do they still have that?) was a little bit smaller, but at least it had rides. The Bi-County Fair had none (they would draw more people if they did). It is mainly for the 4-H Clubs of Cibola and McKinley Counties.

What I saw were outdoor pens of pigs, goats and cows. The was a separate building with rabbits and poultry (chickens, ducks, turkeys, etc.). The snack bar shared the small indoor rodeo arena. There were a few vendors present and a separate building with art, quilts, photography and cooked goods for judging. There's an outdoor rodeo arena with a big grandstand.

They don't charge for admission or parking, the sponsor (Marathon Petroleum) covers these.

The fair staff were friendly and were easy to strike up a conversation with.

It is interesting that this fair is so small, considering that it is for two counties (Cibola and McKinley Counties). I would hope they add a "fun zone" of rides in the future. It would draw more people.

I wasn't expecting Goliath-sized fairs like the Los Angeles and Orange County Fairs, but at least it was something to so and get out of house. I may return for their rodeo.

I'm not done with fairs yet. The Navajo Nation Fair will take place next week in Window Rock, Arizona.

This Morning

The Bunnies Discovered The Food

For the first time since I've put food dishes out for the cottontail rabbits who inhabit my yard, I've finally seen that they are partaking. These photos were taken minutes ago.

One was munching away at a food dish with one nearby watching near the east fence.

Yesterday, I went grocery shopping at Walmart. While there, I picked up a bag of rabbit food for the wild bunnies who inhabit my yard.

The rabbits I've seen here are usually desert cottontails. I did see one jackrabbit in the neighbor's yard.

My "honorary sister" (who has pet rabbits and knows a lot about rabbits in general) said the food I bought was a "good choice". She also said they are more nocturnal (and will be actively looking for food at night). Once they do, she says, they'll be "regular visitors".

The rabbits don't seem to mind me when I sit outside. They will keep their distance, but will sit and "chill out" with their eyes closed. Maybe they figure that since I am out there, no predator will dare show up.

I put some food in an old cat food dishs after getting home and placed them outside in areas where they have been known to frequent. I checked it this morning and they haven't yet discovered the food.
