Terrible's Roadhouse Searchlight

Above, Terrible's Roadhouse Searchlight last month. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

In-between Las Vegas, Nevada and Lake Havasu, Arizona (or Needles, California) on U.S. Highway 95 in Nevada sits the small community of Searchlight, Nevada.

Until last year, when I went to the Wells Fun Run in Wells, Nevada with Mitch Geriminsky, I had never been to Searchlight. Searchlight is almost the midway point between Las Vegas and Lake Havasu. It is a very small unincorporated town with a population under 600. It was once a gold mining town.

We stopped at Terrible's Roadhouse Casino & Restaurant (or Terrible's Roadhouse Searchlight). We found the place like the casinos and roadhouse restaurants of old, not like the over-the-top high-tech casinos of today. The restaurant had tables and chairs that looked like they date back to the 1950s or 1960s. The big sign in front said "$1 Beer". It is also known for the oversized chair. We enjoyed our stops there (we stopped there on the return trip as well) and had photos of us in the chair.

This year, we were surprised to see that Denny's took over the Roadhouse Restaurant and put in new plush tables and booths. Apparently, they took over the restaurant earlier this year, making some to grumble, "Get rid of Denny's and go back to being a real casino coffee shop.....you are off the list of motorcycle ride stops....don't have to ride out of to eat at Denny's....no reason to go there now..." The food fare was typical Denny's. At least the giant chair was still there, although moved to another spot in the casino.

I understand Terrible's Roadhouse Casino and Restaurant are under new owners.

"Progress", I guess.
