Colorado: A Bagless State

A few minutes ago, I got back from doing some food shopping at the KOA store.

I got everything I wanted and asked for a bag. I was told that Colorado is a bagless state. But, fortunately, the girl at the cash register had a paper bag that she gave me. 

According to Wikipedia:

There is no national plastic bag fee or ban currently in effect in the United States. However, the states of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii (de facto), Maine, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington and the territories of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, United States Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico have banned disposable bags. Over 200 counties and municipalities have enacted ordinances either imposing a fee on plastic bags or banning them outright, including all counties in Hawaii.

I haven't had to deal with this nonsense since I moved out of Commiefornia. Note that all of the states listed above are Blue States (i.e., run by Democrats). Talk about majoring in the minors!

Whenever I get plastic shopping bags, I reuse them for my trash when I camp, so it's not that they are being discarded without additional use(s).

Ban On Plastic Bags: L.A. City Council Is Packed With Morons

Most supermarkets in Los Angeles will no longer be able to provide plastic bags for shoppers under a ban approved Wednesday by the Los Angeles City Council.  The vote was 13-1.

Besides the ban on plastic bags, shoppers would be charged 10 cents per paper bag one year after the ban goes into effect.

This is a typical "feel good" environmentalist wacko idea.  They claim that plastic bags won't degrade for many years and they end up being eaten by marine life.

Is there an epidemic of sea animals dying from eating plastic bags?  Show me the evidence!

Most people re-use those plastic bags.  They use them to pick up dog droppings, line small waste baskets and for other things.  

They are expecting us to use those reusable canvas bags to bag up our groceries.  That presents another problem.  Those bags are carriers of bacteria that can contaminate food products.  They have to be frequently washed.  Plus, people just toss them in pantries, in the back seats of cars or in the trunk.  Animals get into them, causing further contamination.  There's been cases where serious illnesses have been traced back to those canvas reusable shopping bags.

The proposed ban sounds nicey-nicey until one looks into it a bit further.  It is just another stupid law from a municipal body who can't get their own house in order.

Whenever congress adopts a law that originated from a state, it is usually from the moronic state of California.  Beware, America!  You're next!
