3rd Rebate Check Arrived

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The last round of rebate checks started going out to New Mexicans Monday.

State officials say it is much-needed relief for New Mexicans dealing with inflation and high prices at the pump.

“New Mexicans are under a lot of fiscal strain right now between the price of fuel and the price of other basic necessities,” said Stephanie Schardin Clarke, the state’s Taxation and Revenue secretary.

Starting in June, New Mexico taxpayers started qualifying for rebate checks: $250 for single filers, and $500 for joint returns.

In July, qualifications were income based. Now in August, every taxpayer can expect another round of money.

It just so happened that my check arrived in the mail today. I'll likely use it for fuel for the Fall clampout with the Lost Dutchman Chapter of E Clampus Vitus next month in Williams, Arizona. I may also use it in two weeks for a trip to Ridgway, Colorado to attend the John Wayne Cancer Foundation marathon. 

The July rebate went for fuel for the Durango and Navajo Lake trip this month.

With the clampout and "50ish" high school reunion in September, it looks like it'll be a traveling month. The reunion will mark the first time I'll be in the L.A. area since I moved to New Mexico four and a half years ago.

Filled The RV Gas Tank

A little while ago, I got done doing some grocery shopping, depositing the state rebate check and filling up The Beast in Gallup.

The Beast needed 40 gallons to be filled up. The total cost was $188.03. After groceries and gasoline, I have $61.97 left over from the check. Gas was priced at $4.649 at Maverick.

So now I have enough gasoline in The Beast for when my ex-roommate Jessica arrives and we go to Durango and Navajo Lake next month.

Gathering At Denny's and Fuel Subsidy

Today started out with a gathering at Denny's at the Flying J.

My former neighbor from across the street, Bo, was in the Gallup area visiting his doctor and we organized a get-together at Denny's. Bo moved to Florida two years ago.

We must've been there for about two hours as we ended the gathering around noon.

After the gathering, I went to the post office to get my mail and found that my fuel or income tax subsidy rebate check from the state arrived. The check was for $250, which is half of the full amount. The other half, as I understand it, will come in August.

I will use this money to fill up The Beast for the trip to Durango, Colorado and Navajo Lake State Park when my ex-roommate Jessica comes for a two-week visit. It will take about that much to fill the 55-gallon motorhome.
