There is a famous (or infamous) low clearance bridge in Durham, North Carolina that has taken out the air conditioners and tops of RVs and semi trucks. There are many videos of accidents involving this bridge.

Personally, I measured the height of my RV from the top of the air conditioner unit to the bottom. It is a total of 11 feet. I have put on the inside of my windshield a reminder of this with a piece of Scotch tape with the height of my motorhome.
