The Most Dependable 9mm Pistols Ever Made

Over the years, I've had both Ruger P89 9mm and Ruger P95 9mm pistols. I had to sell the P89s (my dad bought me one and I inherited his) but I still have the P95. The P95 one is my go-to defense gun that I keep handy. 

The Avid Outdoorsman posted a list of 20 most dependable 9mm pistols ever made and the 'Ruger P95 made the list.

They begin with:

I’ve watched more 9mm pistols choke on a dusty range bench than I care to admit. Most of the time it’s not because the gun is “junk.” It’s because somebody bought something too tight, too finicky, too under-sprung for cheap ammo, or too clever by half. Dependable is boring, and boring is what you want when it’s riding in a console, living in a nightstand, or tucked under a jacket on a gas-station run in the middle of nowhere.

This isn’t a list of what’s hottest right now. It’s the 9mms that tend to keep running after the new-gun excitement wears off, after the first few thousand rounds, after a little lint gets into places you didn’t know existed. Some are big, some are small, some are heavy, and a couple feel like a brick. But when it comes to the guns I’ve seen come back from hard use and still just work, these are the standouts.

Lung Blower

Last week, His Fraudulency Joe Biden said this:

A .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out, may be able to get it, and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.

Biden Pushing 9mm Handgun Ban

When His Fraudulency Joe Biden claims he doesn't want to confiscate your weapons, you can be pretty certain that he's lying through his teeth.

The NRA-ILA points out his stance in a new article (June 2).

It starts off with: 

If anyone was still questioning the Biden-Harris administration’s devotion to banning and confiscating law-abiding Americans’ firearms, all doubt was erased this weekend.

On May 31, President Joe Biden once again stated that he wants to ban 9mm firearms. Speaking with reporters outside the White House about a purported encounter with a “trauma doctor,” Biden stated,

They said a .22-caliber bullet will lodge in the lung, and we can probably get it out — may be able to get it and save the life. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body.

So, the idea of these high-caliber weapons is, uh, there’s simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting. Remember, the Constitution was never absolute. You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed. You couldn’t go out and purchase a lot of weaponry.

Biden went on to say,

I can’t dictate this stuff. I can do the things that I’ve done.  And any executive action I can take, I’ll continue to take. But I can’t outlaw a weapon.

The implication of Biden’s statement is clear to anyone other than a “fact checker” more interested in defending the president than checking any facts. Biden wants to outlaw 9mm firearms – the vast majority of which are the common 9mm handgun. It should also be noted that the president’s statement about the legality of cannons is an utter lie that even the left-wing press won’t defend.

Observers can be certain that Biden wants to ban 9mm pistols because the president has touted this policy twice before.

Biden Steps On Hornet's Nest On Wanting To Ban 9mm Pistols

One of the most popular calibers of firearms is the 9mm. I have a Ruger P95 pistol that is my prime defense weapon of choice (and for occasional plinking).

Now His Fraudulency Joe Biden wants to ban 9mm pistols. He also stepped into a hornet's nest on Twitter yesterday as the 9mm is the "most popular" caliber in America.

From Fox News:

President Biden faced a new round of backlash on Twitter for his comments on gun control legislation and 9mm ammo on Memorial Day.

Speaking with reporters outside the White House, Biden told about his efforts to work on gun control legislation with Republicans in Congress following the deadly Uvalde school shooting. While Biden admitted that his executive options are limited, he suggested that 9mm bullets have no "rational basis" to be used for self-defense.

"The .22 caliber bullet will lodge in the lungs and we can get it out. A 9mm bullet blows the lung out of the body. The idea of a high caliber weapon, there is simply no rational basis for it in terms of self-protection, hunting," Biden said.

He also added, "And remember, in the Constitution, the Second Amendment was never absolute. You couldn’t buy a cannon when the Second Amendment was passed. You couldn’t go out and purchase a lot of weapons."

According to the ATF’s Annual Firearms Manufacturing & Export Report, pistols produced in 9mm comprised of approximately 56.8% of new pistols produced in 2019, making up about 42% of pistols produced between 2010 and 2020.

Ammo Shortage: The Five Hardest To Find Common Calibers

Unless you've totally tuned out of life, you're aware that there is currently an ammunition shortage.

Some say it is seven million new gun owners are driving it. Others say people are hoarding ammo. But the fact is, ammunition is in short supply and what is out there is more expensive to buy.

The National Interest has posted an article on the five hardest to find common calibers.

They begin it with:

As firearm sales continue to set new records, and show little to no sign of slowing down anytime soon, ammunition is likely going to remain expensive and likely difficult to find. Even not so popular calibers, such as .250 Savage, have been increasingly hard to acquire, while the more common calibers are now all but impossible to locate anywhere.

Brick and mortar and online retailers alike continue to sell out as fast as supplies arrive, so the best that consumers can do is to look often, sign up for back-orders and hope to get lucky.

The article lists the five hardest, but I will only present the first two:

9x19mm

A betting man could have cleaned up if he had guessed a year ago that 9mm would be this difficult to find, but a year into the pandemic whenever this common caliber is available it sells out quickly. Prices have gone up and 9mm is running between 80 cents to $1.20 a round. One factor driving up prices is that 9mm is so widely used by law enforcement, so that just adds to the demand across the country.

30-30 Winchester

It may not be hunting season, but it will take all of a hunter’s skills to track down this popular caliber. If you do an online search for the 30-30 Winchester cartridge, get ready to “Temporarily Unavailable” or “On Back Order.” Perhaps that is for the best as prices now range from $1.10 to $2.45 per round. This is pandemic pricing to say the least.

I use both 9mm and 30-30. Fortunately for me, I bought plenty before the ammo shortage began or got as bad as it is now.
