NM Democrats File Bill To "Protect" Chaco Canyon

After the Navajo Nation passed a resolution opposing a ten-mile oil and gas drilling buffer around Chaco Culture National Historical Park, five Democrats thumbed their noses at them by introducing a bill for "permanent Chaco Canyon protection".

According to Kiowa County Press:

(The Center Square) - Five Congressmen and Senators from New Mexico introduced a bill that they hope will protect Chaco Canyon.

U.S. Senators Ben Ray Lujan and Martin Heinrich and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernandez, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez, all Democrats from New Mexico, reintroduced the Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act this week.

The bill hopes to protect Chaco Canyon and the "greater sacred landscape surrounding the Chaco Culture National Historical Park," according to a press release from Lujan's office.

The Navajo Nation recently voted to reject a proposed buffer around the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, as well as a plan by the U.S. Department of the Interior to withdraw 351,000 acres from oil and natural gas leasing.

Navajo Nation people depend on oil and gas revenue and any bans would put them into deeper poverty.

Piñon Post: Ronchetti "Clobbers" Lujan Grisham In Debate

Since I had out-of-state visitors last evening, I was not able to watch last night's debate between Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Mark Ronchetti live. However, I did watch it after I got home on YouTube (thanks KOB 4 for making it available).

The debate ran the gamut of of issues such as education, crime, economy, job loss, business loss, energy, abortion, immigration/border security, catch & release of criminals, homelessness and other topics. On each topic, Ronchetti presented Lujan Grisham's record of failure effectively.

Lujan Grisham stuck to her talking points and attacked Ronchetti's positions, which he easily deflected and effectively counter-punched. 

John Block at Piñon Post felt Ronchetti "clobbered" Lujan Grisham:

Ronchetti went straight for the jugular in his opening statement, saying, “This governor has been letting out violent criminals.” He said, “If you think the system is broken, she is the head of the system.” 

Regarding education, Ronchetti said, “If you think the education system is broken, this governor is the head of that system.”

“The fact is her 30 years of government experience has her right where we are.”

The debate had a clear winner: Republican Mark Ronchetti, who had a detailed plan on turning the state around while also focusing on kitchen table issues. Lujan Grisham appeared very defensive and hell-bent on swerving many topics to that of abortion while blaming national politics for her failures in office.

Ronchetti did far better in last night's debate against Lujan Grisham than he did during the 2020 senate campaign debate against Ben Ray Lujan. This time, he had an opponent who has a dismal record of failure in office. He was also too nice back then as well. He presented his positions well. That's where his television experience shined through.  

Lujan Grisham feebly attacked Ronchetti for not attending legislative sessions at the Roundhouse. Most of her attacks were feeble.

Another debate between the two will come in two weeks.

Sen. Ben Ray Lujan Suffers Stroke

Karma being what it is, I am not one who would wish ill on anyone, not even a member of the opposite party.

The Associated Press reported:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic Sen. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico suffers stroke, expected to make 'full recovery,' office says.

According to CBS News:

Senator Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico is recovering in a hospital after experiencing a stroke, according to his office. 

Luján, 49, underwent decompressive surgery to ease swelling after he was found to have suffered a stroke in his cerebellum that affected his balance, his chief of staff Carlos Sanchez said. Luján had checked himself into Christus St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Santa Fe after he felt dizzy and fatigued Thursday morning, and then was transferred to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque for further evaluation. 

At 49, that seems awfully young to have a stroke. Perhaps some lifestyle and diet changes are in order.

Best wishes to Sen. Lujan for a speedy recovery.

Ronchetti Enters New Mexico GOP Gubernatorial Primary Race

Weatherman Mark Ronchetti, who ran against and lost to Ben Ray Lujan last year, decided to run in the GOP Primary for governor of New Mexico next year.

With his name recognition and the fact that Lujan was an empty suit candidate, I expected Ronchetti to do a lot better in the senate race or even possibly win. He lost by 6%. Some suspect election fraud turned the election.

By no means is Ronchetti a card-carrying conservative and he even badmouthed President Trump prior to his campaign.

The Republican Party of Bernalillo County posted the following on Facebook (bold font mine):

REPUBLICAN GUBERNATORIAL PRIMARY GETS ANOTHER ENTRY BRINGING TOTAL TO EIGHT CONTENDERS

Former US Senate candidate Mark Ronchetti joins Commissioner Jay Block, Representative Rebecca Dow, RTLCNM ED Ethel Maharg, former congressional candidate Karen Bedonie, former US Senate candidate Louie Sanchez, retired officer Greg Zanetti, and businessman Tim Walsh in the race for the 2022 Gubernatorial Republican nomination. 

The BCGOP pre-primary county convention will take place some time around late January or early February of 2022.

At present, I am on the fence on who I am going to support during the primary, but it is definitely not Ronchetti. I also requested an interview with him last year and got no response. That's a no-no in my book.

My criteria for support is that the candidate has strong conservative credentials, a good campaigner and can raise funds to win.

Gov. "Malevolent Michelle" Lujan Grisham may be underwater popularity-wise now, but don't underestimate her. The Democrat Party is strong in Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas as well as in some other areas of the state. A Republican nominee needs to concentrate on those areas to dilute her vote.

REP. DEB HAALAND AS INTERIOR SECRETARY WOULD MEAN BAD NEWS FOR NEW MEXICO

In an email, the Republican Party of New Mexico had this reaction to the nomination of Rep. Deb Haaland as Interior Secretary:

This past week, Joe Biden nominated New Mexico U.S. Rep. Deb Haaland to become Interior Secretary. 

While it's always flattering whenever a New Mexican is tapped for such a national honor, it's a bad pick for New Mexico. Haaland's extreme position on energy would destroy New Mexico jobs and our important oil and gas industry. Haaland has proven she supports the Green New Deal and opposes fracking, positions that will demolish one of New Mexico’s most critical industries. Haaland’s progressive agenda would make her the most radical left Interior Secretary in the nation’s history.

“Rep. Haaland has constantly voiced her opposition to fracking on federal lands,” said Republican Party of New Mexico Chairman Steve Pearce. “With her as Secretary, she will destroy New Mexico’s vital energy industry. Oil and gas is New Mexico’s bread and butter, providing billions in revenue, more than 40% of our state’s budget and more than 100,000 jobs. This doesn’t bode well for the energy industry as a whole.”

For some reason, I was expecting the KOB Channel 4 debate between Rep. Ben Ray Lujan and Mark Ronchetti to be held tomorrow night. (That's what I read.)

Instead, it was held this evening.

The debate demonstrated why Ronchetti deserves to be our next U.S. Senator. He focused on crime and the economy, providing specifics and a precise vision of where he wants to take New Mexico for the next six years. Lujan seemed lost and desperately tried to defend his record in Congress but failed to convince anyone that he has achieved any meaningful accomplishments for New Mexicans while in Washington.

Lujan seemed flustered and often evaded the questions. Ronchetti was confident, sharp and on target with his points.

Excuses, Excuses of Ben Ray Lujan

After weeks of saying he won't attend the October KOB-TV debate with Mark Ronchetti, Rep. Ben Ray Lujan now has a new excuse for ducking it.

According to the Associated Press:

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) — Democratic U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján said Sunday that work on a COVID-19 relief bill and other pressing Congressional business might keep him away from an early October U.S. Senate debate against Republican challenger Mark Ronchetti. 

Luján’s campaign told The Associated Press that his duties in Congress to pass a coronavirus relief package and rescue the U.S. Postal Service may prevent him from joining a scheduled October 5th debate on KOB-TV. 

He has not confirmed that he’ll join the KOB-TV debate. The station said it would still hold the debate with an empty podium for Luján. 

Ronchetti has accused Luján of “hiding” from voters by not accepting debate offers from the other outlets. His campaign said it wasn’t buying Luján’s reasoning about possibly skipping the KOB-TV debate. 

“It’s disappointing that Ben Ray Luján continues to make excuses for ducking debates,” Ronchetti campaign spokesman Jeff Glassburner said. “He’s had no problem coming to New Mexico to film false TV attack ads, but he refuses to commit to debate.”

If a candidate is unwilling to debate the issues with his opponents, he does not deserve to even be considered for the position.

Talk about this man's gall!

He's afraid to debate, but he's not scared. Otherwise, New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray "Bennie Lu-lu" Lujan would debate Mark Ronchetti.

Lujan seems to think the New Mexico U.S. Senate seat is already his. He already has a "SenLujan" Twitter account (see above). And, he has a link to a government senate website with his name on it, but it goes nowhere. We have to make sure it stays that way!

Nothing like counting your chickens before they hatch!

Maybe he should have a talk with President Thomas Dewey and President Hillary Clinton about overconfidence.

"Bennie The Chicken-Hearted" Refuses To Debate Ronchetti

Rep. Ben Ray "Bennie Lu-lu" Lujan apparently thinks he has the U.S. Senate seat from New Mexico in the bag or just is entitled to it (he already has a @SenLujan Twitter account). In any case, he is refusing to debate on television his Republican opponent Mark Ronchetti.

For a man who has accomplished absolutely nothing for his congressional district (of which I am a resident), this is not very smart politics to say the least. He needs to earn the senate seat. Being Nancy Pelosi's "butt-boy" does not cut it.

“It’s not surprising that Rep. Luján will be a no-show at this important debate. He has done little to help New Mexicans in Congress and has been a no-show in his home District. With an open U.S. Senate seat, it’s vital that voters be able to compare and contrast political views, and it’s obvious Lujan doesn’t care enough to discuss important issues for constituents of his state. This exposes who Rep. Luján really is, and New Mexicans deserve better than this.”

Maybe he should be known in the future as "Bennie The Chicken-Hearted". 

Rep. Ben Ray "Bennie Lu-lu" Lujan Is Worried

The campaign between Rep. Xochitl Torres Small and Yvette Herrell may be pivotal to the political fortunes of Rep. Ben Ray "Benny Lu-lu" Lujan and Mark Ronchetti in their race for the U.S. senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Udall. It is the race between the meteorologist (Ronchetti) and the ex-blackjack dealer (Lujan).

Lujan has been Nancy Pelosi's "right arm" in the House. He has accomplished nothing for New Mexico.

A recent "campaign call" was reported by the Piñon Post:

In a campaign call for Rep. Ben Ray Luján’s U.S. Senate race titled “When We Vote, We Win! A Women for Ben Roundtable,” joined by Democrat Rep. Xochitl Torres Small, many topics were covered. The call was attended by many Democrat Party insiders, including State Auditor Brian Colón, former Lieutenant Governor Diane Denish, former Secretary of State Clara Padilla Andrews, multiple state representatives, candidates, and Democrat party officials.  

While speaking about Rep. Xochitl Torres Small, Luján made a point to speak of her race being rated “the most competitive race in the U.S. House of Representatives,” going on to say that if Torres Small is not re-elected, it could affect his race, as well as that of other Democrats in the state. Luján claimed, “it could jeopardize many of our races here in New Mexico.” Torres Small is running against former New Mexico state Representative Yvette Herrell, who was declared the winner of the 2nd Congressional Race on election night 2018, however, absentee ballots came in swinging the election in Torres Small’s favor.

If Torres Small should lose, it is because she lied to the voters about her positions on issues in 2018 and has been a reliable vote for Nancy Pelosi.

It should be pointed out that the absentee ballots were suspicious.

According to the Daily Signal:

The roughly 3,500-vote victory for Torres Small—out of about 200,000 cast in the southern New Mexico district—relied heavily on absentee ballots from Doña Ana County, the largest county in the district, including the Las Cruces area. 

A new audit report obtained by The Daily Signal alleges a “concerted effort” to push for absentee votes where New Mexico voter ID laws are not enforced. It also points to potential fraud in applying for absentee ballots, and says a significant number of absentee ballots were time-stamped after the 7 p.m. deadline election night.

Shades of Tammany Hall!

Benny Lu-lu is worried, and for good reason. The New Mexico Republican Party is onto the Democrats' fraudulent tactics and will be prepared this time.

Mark Ronchetti

The voters have spoken (at least the ones allowed to vote yesterday).

There were some voting irregularities that need to be addressed. I have one of my own, as I posted yesterday.

Mark Ronchetti is now the Republican nominee for U.S. Senator from New Mexico. He was not my choice (Elisa Martinez was).

He has "a lot of "splainin'" to do. He badmouthed Donald Trump at a climate change event last year, calling him the "orange one". Where does he stand today? Will he welcome the President to New Mexico for campaign events? Has he apologized for his remarks? Will he be a Republican senator we can be proud of or will he be a R.I.N.O. in the mold of a Mitt Romney or a Jeff Flake?

He needs to address these questions sufficiently for win conservative Republican support in the general election. Some have already declared their non-support. To me, he is preferable to Ben Ray Lujan. If he hopes to win the general election, he needs enthusiastic support from the Republican base.

"The Lujan Virus", Thank-you, Joe Biden!

New Mexico Politics with John Block blog pointed out something interesting and funny.

Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden made another gaffe. It accidentally takes a big poke at Gov. "Malevolent Michelle" Lujan Grisham and Rep. Ben Ray Lujan at the same time.

Block wrote:

On Friday, former vice president and current Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden held a live conversation with various workers on the frontlines combating COVID-19. During the conversation, Biden made another gaffe, this time claiming President Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo insists on calling the novel Chinese virus the “Luhan Virus.”  

Biden was trying to say “Wuhan,” which is the province where the deadly Coronavirus spawned. According to recent research, the virus originated from a shrimp vendor in a market in the Wuhan region.

Included in Block's post is a video of Biden saying "Lujan virus".

Rep. Lujan Took In $300K In PAC Money Before "Pledge" Not To

 "Money is the mother's milk of politics. If you can't eat their food, drink their booze, screw their women, take their money and then vote against them, you have no business being up here." - Jesse "Big Daddy" Unruh, former California Assembly Speaker.

Several Democrat politicians have taken a "pledge" to not take campaign contributions from corporate political action committees (PACs), but some of them took in plenty of it before taking the "pledge".

This includes Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, who is currently running for a New Mexico U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Udall.

According to Roll Call:

In raising more than $2 million last year, Rep. Cindy Axne didn’t take a dime from any PAC designated as linked to a “corporation” by the Federal Election Commission. Yet her campaign is still stocked with contributions from groups that represent corporate and business interests on Capitol Hill. 

And she’s not alone. The freshman Democrat, who is in a Toss-up race in an Iowa district President Donald Trump carried in 2016, is one of more than 50 sitting lawmakers who have taken a pledge not to accept direct donations from the political action committees of corporations. 

The pledge has led to growing concerns among corporate PAC leaders about what it means for their future. 

Yet a review of contribution records by CQ Roll Call found the political money of business interests — to the tune of $2.6 million last year alone — continued to find a way to most of the lawmakers who have taken the pledge. 

New Mexico Rep. Ben Ray Luján, another Democrat seeking a Senate seat, collected about $300,000 in corporate and association PAC money, most of it before he took his pledge.

After taking the pledge, did Lujan return the $300,000 corporate and association PAC money? I doubt it.

Elisa Martinez For U.S. Senate

Yesterday, the Pre-Primary Republican Convention was held in Albuquerque and the candidate field for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Tom Udell. The convention vote left two candidates standing and will be on the ballot for the June 2 Primary.

The Albuquerque Journal reported:

Anti-abortion advocate Elisa Martinez and former television meteorologist Mark Ronchetti emerged as the top Republican challengers to Democratic Congressman Ben Ray Luján in the race to replace Tom Udall in the U.S. Senate. 

Martinez received the most votes, and Ronchetti finished second at the New Mexico Republican Party Pre-Primary Convention on Saturday at Hotel Albuquerque. Former Trump administration official and ex-New Mexico State University professor Gavin Clarkson, Albuquerque contractor Mick Rich and businessman Louie Sanchez failed to receive 20% of the vote required to secure places on the ballot, and must submit more petitions to remain in the primary race. 

“The bottom line is that New Mexicans have been left behind by our politicians in D.C.,” said Martinez, who credited her first-place finish to her grassroots campaign. “It’s time we start putting New Mexico first. … We’re behind. We’re last in everything good, and first in everything bad. And we need to flip that by focusing on the economy and jobs.”

Electing Rep. Ben Ray Lujan to the U.S Senate would be a disaster for the country and New Mexico. His stands on the issues is in direct opposite of common sense and what the people want. His cousin, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham is one of the most unpopular governors in the country. She has caused deep divisions within the state and Ben Ray Lujan also part of the left-wing wackos who have taken over the Democrat Party. To paraphrase Rev. Jesse Jackson, "Stay out of the Lujans!"

As such, I see Elisa Martinez as having the best chance to defeat Lujan in November. I agree with her stands on the issues and has already built a good campaign organization. Ronchetti may be a good man, but in comparison to Martinez, he is a political novice.

Accordingly, I am supporting Martinez for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate from New Mexico. I have notified her campaign of my support and made a contribution to her campaign.

New Mexico GOP U.S. Senate Primary Campaign

Former California Assembly Speaker Jesse Unruh famously said, "Money is the mother's milk of politics!"

Campaign money is the topic of this blog post.

Any one of the three Republican primary candidates for the U.S. Senate from New Mexico would be vastly preferable to Rep. Ben Ray Lujan, who will be the likely Democrat nominee.

They are: Gavin Clarkson, Elisa Martinez and Mick Rich.

I have met Mick Rich. He ran against Sen. Martin Heinrich last year. Now he's running for the senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tom Udall next year.

I have not decided on whom I will support during the Republican primary campaign. One major criteria that will weigh heavily on my decision will be who can raise the campaign funding to wage a winning campaign. To construct a winning campaign organization and wage an effective media campaign, it takes money. Lots of it!

It is a foregone conclusion that the radical left-wing political action committees (PACs) will flood the campaign coffers of Lujan and mount their own ad campaigns. To win, the Republican nominee has to raise enough funds to counter the smear campaigns they will wage. The left did this last year.

I have signed onto the Federal Elections Commission's FEC Notify website to get notifications on how much each candidate raises.

At present, Mick Rich and Gavin Clarkson are about neck-and-neck on contributions. There are no available reports from the Elisa Martinez campaign presently. That will change in the coming weeks.

If the Republican nominee can't raise the funds to wage a winning campaign, their campaign will be just an exercise in futility against the money machines of the left.

If New Mexico citizens want to keep Ben Ray Lujan from winning the senate seat, they have to contribute to the Republican nominee. Links to each Republican candidate's website are provided above and have widgets for making contributions.

New Mexico's Evil Three

We have a troika in congress from New Mexico who voted for impeachment this morning.

On Thursday morning, Democrats voted to continue the impeachment inquiry into President Trump, with most members voting for the partisan measure. All New Mexico Members of Congress, Reps. Ben Ray Luján(D-NM-3), Debra Haaland (D-NM-1), and Xochitl Torres Small (D-NM-2), voting for the partisan measure. 

Earlier in the morning, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi made a floor speech, saying “what it’s about is the truth” as she stood by the flag to introduce the impeachment vote. Pelosi dropped the names of Benjamin Franklin and other founding fathers to try and bolster her case for impeachment against President Trump

Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) took to the House floor, with a staffer attending to a printed sign emblazoned with the words “37 Days of Soviet-Style Impeachment Proceedings” as he roasted Pelosi’s sham impeachment inquiry, saying the Democrats’ resolution gives “no rights for the minority unless the Chair so designates,” and that the inquiry is being run by “Soviet-style rules.” 

Yes, Lujan, Haaland and Torres-Small support this resolution loaded with Soviet-style rules. Each of them need to be trounced in next year's election. They are the Evil Three of New Mexico.

Navajo Nation Businesswoman Becomes GOP Congressional Candidate In New Mexico

A Navajo Nation businesswoman has filed papers to become the first Republican Native American woman member of Congress.

It happens to be the district where I reside in New Mexico, now currently occupied by Ben Ray Lujan, part of New Mexico's version of Tammany Hall of the Lujan family that includes Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.

According to the Billings Gazette:

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — A northwestern New Mexico woman has announced she is running for an open U.S. House seat in New Mexico and wants to become the first Republican Native American female in Congress. 

Karen Bedonie recently filed papers with the Federal Election Commission to seek the GOP nomination for open U.S. House seat in northern New Mexico.

The Navajo Nation businesswoman promises on her campaign website site to “lift the government burdens off our shoulders.” She also says a robust Second Amendment could address the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women in the U.S.

The district has been dominated by Democrats for decades, but all that may change since the party has been moving further left in recent years. The Indian Reservation system is a glaring example of the failure of socialism.
