This generation's Pearl Harbor occurred 25 years ago today. The memory of that day is forever etched into the minds of those alive that day, just as the Pearl Harbor attack on December 7, 1941 and the assassination of President Kennedy on November 22, 1963 with earlier generations. I remember the Kennedy assassination as I was nine years old at the time.

September 11, 2001 started out routinely. I was working for a security patrol company and as a claims adjuster temp at Farmers Insurance Company. I was working the two jobs as I was about to make my first trip to Japan in October. I had purchased my passport only days before September 11, 2001. 

On the morning of September 11, I was getting ready for work at Farmers while I perused the Dave Schutz Adventures of Superman message board. On the board, I noticed some postings about some sort of incident in New York. Reading further, I found that airplanes hit the World Trade Center. I then went over to Newsmax.com and saw multiple bulletins posted. While reading, I turned on my Sony Watchman television set that sat on my computer printer. It was then I saw the horror unfold. I watched for several minutes until I had to drive to work. 

I was heading out of the house when my mom called me to tell me about the attacks. Following the telephone call, I grabbed my police scanner and headed out the door. Through the scanner, I was able to pick up radio broadcasts. I had the scanner turned on all day on my desk at work. 

At Farmers, two televisions were rolled out and were kept on all day. One of the workers had a cousin in New York who worked at the World Trade Center. As the day went on, he became more frantic as his cousin hadn't been heard from. Eventually, a family member heard from her. She reported that she left the WTC minutes before the first plane hit to go to the bank. When she returned, she saw the damage to the building and pieces of body parts scattered on the ground. She wasn't allowed back in the building. She spent the rest of the day trying to get home.

 As the day progressed, the news got even worse. Reports came in that the Pentagon was also attacked and a plane crashed in Pennsylvania (it was bound for Washington, D.C.) 

Jessica, my roommate of a few years ago, told me that she was living in the Bronx (roughly 30 miles away) at the time of the attacks. From there, she could see and smell the smoke from the WTC. 

Almost two months after September 11, I took my first trip to Japan. When I arrived at Los Angeles International Airport on October 31, National Guardsmen were still stationed in the airport terminals. We are still feeling the aftermath of the September 11 attacks. Airport security has been greatly tightened (often bordering on civil rights issues) as have security in government and private industry facilities. 

Thankfully, we have not been attacked again due to the work of our servicemen and servicewomen as well as our intelligence agencies. Although we have not been attacked since, to lower our guard would be folly. It can happen again.

Police Probe: Are The New Years Terror Incidents Related?

Investigators are looking into the terror incidents on New Years to see if they are related.

It seems quite possible since they came within hours of each other.

According to the BBC:

Police in the US are investigating whether an explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas is linked to the deadly car-ramming attack in New Orleans.

The driver of a Tesla Cybertruck was killed and seven other people were injured in Las Vegas after the vehicle - filled with fuel canisters and firework mortars - exploded. Officials said all injuries were minor.

In the New Orleans attack, a 42-year-old US citizen is believed to have driven a pick-up truck into a crowd on a busy street, killing 14 people and injuring 35, before being shot dead by police.

President Joe Biden said investigators were looking into whether the two incidents were linked, but "thus far, there is nothing to report".

22nd Anniversary

It is hard to believe that 22 years has flown by since September 11, 2001. It is even harder to believe that this country is in the state it's in.

Copenhagen Mall Shooting

Proving once again that mass shootings aren't just a phenomena of the United States, a shooter yesterday opened fire and killed three and wounded several others. Oslo, Norway recently had a mass shooting on June 25 by an Islamic terrorist.

According to Fox News:

Authorities say the shooting incident in Denmark, where a gunman opened fire at a busy shopping mall in Copenhagen, leaving three people dead and at least three others injured was not terror-related.

The gunman likely acted alone and fired indiscriminately at random shoppers, Danish Police said Monday, the day after the shooting.

Copenhagen chief police inspector Søren Thomassen said the deceased victims included one Russian and two Danish citizens. The victims included a man in his 40s and two "young people," he said.

Thomassen said the suspect, identified only as a 22-year-old Danish man, was arrested at the scene and that the incident was not an act of terrorism. 

Since Asya is in Copenhagen, I checked with her to see if she was okay since one of the deceased was a Russian. She replied that she is in the countryside and thanked me for checking.

Biden's Response To Islamic Terrorism: More Gun Control

It didn't take long for His Fraudulency Joe Biden to call for more gun control after the shooting in Colorado. Biden is so predictable.

Each time there is a shooting, the Democrats exploit it.

BIDEN: "I don't to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common sense steps that will save lives... We can ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines... We can close the loopholes in our background check system."

According to WABC:

DENVER, COLORADO (77WABC) – Authorities have released the identity of the alleged Colorado shooter.  His name is Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa.  He’s a 21 year old Muslim man who now faces 10 counts of murder in the first degree after a shooting rampage at a Colorado supermarket Monday afternoon.

The suspect’s Facebook page, which has since been scrubbed, includes several pro Islam posts, one anti-Trump post, and a pro-immigration post.

Gun control is not going to stop (we may as well say it) Islamic terrorists in our midst. We need more armed people. If only someone at the scene had a gun to fire back at Alissa, lives could have been saved.
