School Shooting Suspect Details Emerge

One could almost predict that yesterday's shooting at a Texas school was going to happen given the suspect's history. It was glaringly obvious.

Why there was no intervention with this kid (age 18) is beyond me. 

The Daily Wire reported:

New disturbing details emerged late on Tuesday evening about the 18-year-old male who shot up an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, earlier in the day.

The suspect was quickly killed by a U.S. Border Patrol agent who reportedly heard the shots and rushed into the building, but not before the suspect shot dozens of people, including at least 19 children who ultimately succumbed to their injuries.

A report in The Washington Post about the suspect, whom The Daily Wire is not naming due to company policy about not giving notoriety to mass killers, painted a familiar portrait of a violent individual who appears to have previous encounters with law enforcement officials.

The Washington Post, which reported that the mass murderer was bullied for wearing black eyeliner and having a lisp according to family and friends, reported that those closest to the suspect said that he had “lashed out violently against peers and strangers recently and over the years.”

The suspect, a Latino male, reportedly cut up his own face with a knife because he claimed that it was “fun,” according to one of the suspect’s former friends.

Naturally, as one can also predict:

Democrats immediately seized on the tragedy as many called for new gun control laws, while other Democrats used it as a cudgel to attack Republicans.

As their mandra states, "Why let a crisis go to waste?"

Ten years ago, the deadly massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School proved the need for armed security protecting K-12 classrooms.

There's more security at any local DMV office than in our elementary schools. I haven't heard of any mass shootings at DMVs.

It has been reported that the killer exchanged gunfire with police before entering the school and barricaded himself inside a classroom. Thank God that U.S. Border Patrol agent was able to take him down.

One of Ronald Reagan's favorite stories he liked to tell while on the campaign trail was one that took place in Texas while campaigning.

It goes like this (from the Washington Post):

During the presidential campaign, one of Ronald Reagan's favorite stories was how he and Nancy knocked on the door of a farmhouse. A man came to the door and looked at them, but there was not the usual sign of recognition in the farmer's face. Reagan thought he'd give him a hint.

"I'm running for president of the United States."

Still nothing.

"I come from Hollywood, California."

The man shook his head. "Don't reckon I know you," he said.

"Well, my initials are R.R."

Suddenly the man's face split into a big grin. He turned and hollered at his wife.

"Come quick, Mama! Roy Rogers and Dale Evans are here! They're runnin' for president!"

This got me curious. Since Ronald Reagan and Roy Rogers were in Hollywood during the same era, I was wondering if Roy supported Reagan for president or not. Even though I worked in all of Reagan's presidential campaigns, I don't recall Roy Rogers being involved.

Tips For Visiting A National Park

A lot of people will likely be visiting a national park for the first time and there are others who have visited some before but could use a little reminding on what to do and what not to do.

The Texarkana Gazette has posted five tips for visiting a national park.

They begin with:

Every year, hundreds of millions of people visit beloved U.S. national parks. While most visitors may have a good time, others could have used some advice before their visit.

Even though visiting a national park may seem like a straightforward endeavor, expert insight can help you make the most of it. That is particularly true this year because the pandemic continues to affect park rules (such as masking), accessibility (some have reinstated reservation systems) and more.

Traveling When Vaccinated

In about two weeks, I will receive my second vaccination dose against COVID-19.

Despite vaccinations, "experts" (whomever they are) are saying that precautions are still needed while traveling.

The Washington Post published a new article on just this topic.

It begins with:

To date, at least 33.2 million people in the United States have received one or both doses of a coronavirus vaccine since the start of distribution in December. But health experts stress that the vaccine is not a get-out-of-pandemic-free card — for travelers or anyone else.

Because we don’t know the full scale of the spread of new coronavirus variants and still have unanswered questions about vaccines, Jessica Malaty Rivera, an epidemiologist with the COVID Tracking Project, said even vaccinated Americans need to remain vigilant about their public health mitigation efforts. To that end, she recommends that travel still be limited to essential trips.

For vaccinated people who do choose to travel, Rivera urges that they choose trips wisely and use mitigation strategies to protect themselves and others. While renting an RV and driving to the mountains might be safe, for example, she recommends avoiding high-risk activities such as flying, traveling to crowded places, and gathering with anyone outside of one’s household.

When I recently took a trip to Texas aboard Southwest Airlines, the planes were about half full with passengers spaced apart for social distancing.

A week later, when flying to and from Las Vegas for a friend's wedding, the American Airlines planes were totally filled up as in normal times. My thought at the time, "So much for social distancing!"

A Symbol of This Campaign

Nick Sandmann, an 18-year-old graduate from Covington Catholic High School who was at the center of a nationwide viral video controversy, lambasted "cancel culture" in his speech to the Republican National Convention, calling on the country to join President Trump in calling the media out.

"I wouldn’t be canceled. I fought back hard to expose the media for what they did to me and won a personal victory. While much more must be done, I look forward to the day that the media returns to providing balanced, responsible and accountable news coverage," he said. "I know President Trump hopes for that too." 

He continued: "In November, I believe this country must unite around a president who calls the media out and refuses to allow them to create a narrative instead of reporting the facts. I believe we must join with a president who will challenge the media to return to objective journalism." 

In 2019, a video of Sandmann, wearing a red Make America Great Again Hat, went viral, showing the teenager standing directly in front of Native American elder Nathan Phillips on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Sandmann had been on a trip from his Kentucky school to Washington, D.C. for the March for Life on Jan. 18, 2019. 

When the video was initially released, many perceived Sandmann to have been mocking Phillips by smirking inches from his face, while the Omaha tribe leader sang and played a drum. But full footage showed a more complicated image where the Covington students were not the instigators: Phillips had actually walked up to the Covington school kids after another group began taunting the teenagers.  

Earlier this year, Sandmann settled for undisclosed amounts with both CNN and The Washington Post.

Navajo Nation Popular Tourist Sites Opening

Popular tourist sites on the Navajo Nation are going to be reopened on Monday.

According to the Washington Post:

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Popular tourist destinations on the Navajo Nation, including Canyon de Chelly, can welcome back tourists Monday under the tribe’s reopening plan. 

Much of the Navajo Nation has been closed since March as the coronavirus swept through the reservation that extends into New Mexico, Utah and Arizona. The tribe released a plan this week that allows hair salons and barber shops to open by appointment only, businesses to operate at 25% of maximum capacity, and the reopening of marinas and parks with safeguards. 

Overlooks and restrooms at Canyon de Chelly National Monument will be accessible to tourists. But visitor centers will be closed there and at Hubbell Trading Post National Monument and Navajo National Monument. Ranger-led hikes also won’t be available. All three sites are managed at least partly by the National Park Service. 

Goulding’s Lodge near Monument Valley also was getting ready for tourists. It has for months mainly hosted people traveling through the reservation who weren’t able to visit the tribal park known for towering sandstone buttes, marketing manager Monica Lafont said.

“We have never really shut down. We just jumped into the mindset of 100% precaution, and our policy and procedures are enforced,” she said.

Coronavirus: Do Not Resuscitate

Last night, a friend sent me this text message:

I was just told by a nurse that many hospitals across the country have issued Do Not Resuscitate orders for coronavirus patients. People need to check their local hospitals to see which ones have issued this order.

Nothing like tossing the Hippocratic Oath out the window!

It just so happens, another friend send me an article from the Washington Post on Do Not Resuscitate orders. 

It begins with:

Hospitals on the front lines of the pandemic are engaged in a heated private debate over a calculation few have encountered in their lifetimes — how to weigh the “save at all costs” approach to resuscitating a dying patient against the real danger of exposing doctors and nurses to the contagion of coronavirus. 

The conversations are driven by the realization that the risk to staff amid dwindling stores of protective equipment — such as masks, gowns and gloves — may be too great to justify the conventional response when a patient “codes,” and their heart or breathing stops. 

Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago has been discussing a do-not-resuscitate policy for infected patients, regardless of the wishes of the patient or their family members — a wrenching decision to prioritize the lives of the many over the one. 

Richard Wunderink, one of Northwestern’s intensive-care medical directors, said hospital administrators would have to ask Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker for help in clarifying state law and whether it permits the policy shift.

“It’s a major concern for everyone,” he said. “This is something about which we have had lots of communication with families, and I think they are very aware of the grave circumstances.”

Like one of my friends said, check your local hospitals to see which of them issued this order.

Grand Canyon: Becoming America's National Treasure

Although the Colorado River has been carving it for eons, it has been only 100 years this month since the Grand Canyon in Arizona became a national park.

In commemoration of the centennial of Grand Canyon National Park, the Washington Post has an article on our national treasure.

They begin it with:

Native peoples knew it by several names, but it’s the one that explorer John Wesley Powell gave it in 1869 that stuck: the Grand Canyon. 

Though not the world’s longest or deepest canyon, it is grand. Some 6 million tourists descend on northern Arizona each year for the stunning views from its north and south rims, 18 miles apart at the widest point. More adventurous visitors hike or ride mules to the canyon floor a mile below, or raft down the Colorado River, whose currents carved the canyon millions of years ago. Humans arrived in the area 12,000 years ago, and some native tribes live there today. 

In February 1919 the Grand Canyon became one of our earliest national parks. It’s also one of the largest, about the size of Delaware. The Colorado River winds through it for 277 miles, longer than the distance between Washington, D.C., and New York City. 

As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the canyon is a huge outdoor lab for geologists (who study rocks) and others interested in studying its past and protecting its future.

As the freshman senator from Utah, Mitt Romney is a long way from the presidency. That has to be especially tough on a two-time presidential loser with You-Know-Who sitting in the Oval Office, a guy who took the brass ring by doing the exact opposite of what you did.

My opinion of Mitt Romney has changed over the years. When he lost the Republican nomination to John McCain in 2008, I thought he was a classy guy with a future. When he lost the general election to Barack Obama in 2012, I thought he was a good man with a glass jaw. When he repeatedly got on his high horse to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016, I thought he was an opportunistic sleaze bag gorging on sour grapes and his own monstrously selfish sense of virtue.

But now, after reading his Washington Post jihad against Trump, I finally figured whatMitt Romney really is … an idiot.

Romney might have a high IQ, but he’s a political moron.

Let’s first dispel with the idea that Romney wrote this op-ed out of some pressing moral need to condemn Trump’s supposed indecency. Decent people don’t contribute to the far-left Washington Post, a news outlet that published a countless number of lies to sabotage Romney, that attacks the children of Republicans, that tells almost as many lies as CNN.

Secondly, decent people sure as hell do not then run to a blacklisting, violence-promoting gangster outfit like CNN to promote that op-ed, and do so specifically with a presidential-penis-obsessed serial liar like Jake Tapper, who is so gosh-darned virtuous he remained silent as his own audience booed a rape victim.

Oh, and let us never forget the series of fake news depth charges CNN dropped on Romney in 2012.

So why would Romney do such a thing? Why would Mr. Decency align himself with objectively indecent organizations and people?

And now we come to the part about Romney being a moron.

Just as his fellow moron John McCain believed in 2008, I think Romney actually believes two things…

1) Sucking up to the media by backstabbing the sitting Republican president is a path to another shot at the Oval Office.

2) When he does run for president again, the same media that relentlessly tarred him as a sexist, racist, plutocrat, job-killing corporate raider who tortures dogs, bullies gays, and gives women cancer, will appreciate him this time.

As far as number one, I think I speak for many Republican voters, including those who vigorously supported Romney in 2012, when I say kiss my ass. Screw you, you preening, backstabbing, undermining, half-witted peacock whose first official act as an incoming U.S. Senator is to sucker punch  Trump, the man who not only endorsed you in Utah, but did so graciously after you launched a series of unhinged and very personal attacks against Trump during the 2016 campaign.

If Mitt Romney were on fire, I wouldn’t spit on him.

And then there’s number two, Romney the Vichy Republican betraying our president to the Washington Post and CNN and Tapper, the worst of the worst of the worst. “Tone deaf” doesn’t even begin to explain it.

Is there not a single one of Mitt Romney’s handlers who can see what is going on here? Are all of these so-called professionals so blinded by hate and arrogance that they truly cannot grasp how their boy is being played? Do they actually believe this siren song….?

Dear Willard:

We were so, so, so, so wrong about you in 2012, and we are so, so sorry. The Bad Orange Man has returned us to our senses and now we see that you are a pure and noble man who deserves to be president. So how does this sound… Let’s bury the hatchet, you come on over, and we’ll destroy Trump together and make you president!!!!

Such is the case with the awarding of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Elvis Presley. The wackos are decrying the award as "racist".

Fox News reported:

Not everyone believes Elvis is the king. 

President Trump awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to seven Americans on Friday, including the late rock star Elvis Presley, though even that gesture is coming under fire from liberals.

Trump honored Presley, baseball legend Babe Ruth, former Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, philanthropist Miriam Adelson, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, jurist Alan Page, and Hall-of-Fame quarterback Roger Staubach. 

Still, some have accused Trump of racism for honoring Presley, long known as the "King of Rock and Roll." 

The Washington Post’s pop culture critic Chris Richards called Trump’s move “a little nod to the good old days, back when black visionaries could invent rock-and-roll, but only a white man could become the king.” 

“Yes, Trump is sending a message here,” Richards wrote. 

That claim has been scoffed at online, with the Weekly Standard publishing a rebuttal titled, “Elvis Wasn’t Racist. Neither Is Giving Him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.” 

“If you’re invested in making Elvis an avatar for racial resentments more than 40 years after his death, you’re, perhaps unwittingly, making the problems of contemporary divisions worse,” columnist Mark Hemingway wrote. “Music is one of a precious few cultural forces still holding us together.”

Sunspot Solar Observatory Closure: Even The Washington Post Is Wondering, Etc.

The Sunspot Solar Observatory and a nearby post office remains locked up. Nobody has said why, which is leading to all kinds of speculation.

Does it have something to do with Robert Mueller? Did the Russians hack the telescope? Aliens? Are there artifacts from the Roswell crashed UFO there?

Even the liberal Washington Post is wondering what's going on.

They wrote:

SUNSPOT, N.M. — At a small solar observatory tucked away in the woods of a national forest here, scientists and other personnel were commanded last week to leave at once. A week later, the facility remains vacant, and no one is willing to say why. 

The mysterious and lengthy evacuation, in a state known for secretive military testing and a suspected UFO crash, has spawned a wealth of speculation. 

Did the researchers spot something extraterrestrial? Was the solar telescope hacked by a foreign power and deployed to spy on, say, the state’s missile testing range? Or is there an innocuous explanation, suppressed only because of corporate and government resistance to transparency?

On Friday, the entrance to the National Solar Observatory was blocked by yellow crime scene tape and two security guards, who said even they had been kept in the dark. The guards, from Red Rock Security & Patrol in Las Cruces, N.M., did not give their names but said it was the first day the company was guarding the entrance and that only the “director and an assistant” were allowed in. There was no obvious sign of law enforcement activity.

An FBI spokeswoman declined to comment, referring questions about the matter to the consortium that manages the buildings. Shari Lifson, an AURA spokeswoman, said in a statement that her group was “addressing a security issue” and had “decided to temporarily vacate the facility as a precautionary measure.” She said they were “working with the proper authorities on this issue,” although she declined to specify who those authorities were. 

Lifson also declined to specify the security issue, other than to dispute the idea aliens were involved. 

The solar observatory is about a 2 1/2-hour drive from Roswell, New Mexico, the site of a now infamous crash in 1947 that the Air Force later claimed was an experiment designed to detect Soviet nuclear activity by monitoring sound waves. The incident sparked so much interest that there is now a UFO museum in the city.

Hawaii Travel: Check With Your Airline

Officials in Hawaii are warning passengers to check with their airlines before heading to the airport to fly to Hawaii due to Hurricane Lane.

According to the Washington Post:

Hawaii’s 15 airports remain open, but officials are reminding travelers to check with their airlines about the status of their flights before heading to the airport. On the Big Island, which received more than 30 inches of rain, officials said there was no reported damage at either of the airports, Hilo and Ellison Onizuka Kona International. On Maui, Kahului Airport temporarily lost power but it was restored Thursday evening, officials said.

Time's Migrant "Boo-Hoo" Cover A Fraud!

Time Magazine has stooped pretty low in the past, and they have done so again with this week's magazine cover of President Donald Trump standing over a crying migrant child.

The cover is intended to pull at people's heartstrings over the separation of migrant children from their parents who have been arrested at the border.

The problem is that the picture of the child is a fraud. Her father stated that she was never separated from her mother. They were from Honduras.

According to Fox News:

A little girl shown in a viral photo crying as a U.S. Border Patrol agent detained her mother – and used by TIME magazine to symbolize the Trump administration's family separation policy – reportedly was never separated from her mom. 

“Welcome to America,” declared a somber TIME cover, which showed the picture of the Honduran child Yanela Sanchez next to a towering President Trump. 

TIME called it “an image America could not ignore” and interviewed the photographer, as did other outlets. TIME followed up with another article entirely about the cover and “the story behind” it. 

But multiple outlets interviewed the father of the girl behind the iconic image, and he said he had learned that his two-year-old daughter was detained with her mother at a facility in Texas, and the two were not separated at all. The Honduran government confirmed his version of events to Reuters. 

The Washington Post reported that the mother, Sandra Sanchez, had previously been deported in 2013 to Honduras. Her husband told the Post that she left without telling him she was taking Yanela with her and couldn’t contact her. But then he saw the picture on the news. 

He also said he did not support his wife’s decision to make the perilous trek to the U.S. and that they have three other children together.

The cover is typical liberal B.S. 

President Trump signed an executive order putting a moratorium on family separations. But the Democrats, under Sen. Charles Schumer's orders, are unwilling to cooperate in getting an immigration reform bill passed.

We Can Thank A Rocker For Making UFOs Serious News

What does a rock 'n roll star do when he reaches his 40s and his music career has cooled? He starts investigating UFOs.

According to a Washington Post email I received:

In December 2017, news reports swirled about a secret Pentagon UFO program complete with grainy military videos showing radar images of unexplained phenomena. The Washington Post’s Dan Zak writes that Tom DeLonge, formerly of Blink 182, helped ring the alarm about reports such as this one, as part of his new business venture: To The Stars Academy of Arts and Science. For his advisory board, DeLonge recruited physicists, aerospace experts and former Department of Defense officials, who have been talking publicly about UFOs and arguing that the government has failed to fully investigate them.

"Massive" Truck Driver Shortage

A few weeks ago, my friend Bill, who I've known since junior high school, stopped by at the Flying J travel center near my home in Jamestown, New Mexico. We met up at the Denny's restaurant and had a nice visit over breakfast.

He and his wife have been truck drivers for ages. They both share in the duties in driving their big Kenworth around the country (it has an automatic transmission). They have a "sleeper cab" that is about the size of a 14 foot travel trailer with beds, dinette, bathroom (with toilet and shower) and kitchen (they just recently traded up for an even larger truck). To me, their lifestyle is like full-time RVing and getting paid for it.

It would seem to me that this would be a great job for a couple with no children or couples with grown children.

But, according to an article in the Washington Post, there is a shortage of truck drivers.

They wrote:

America has a massive shortage of truck drivers. Joyce Brenny, head of Brenny Transportation in Minnesota, increased driver pay 15 percent this year to try to attract more drivers. Many of her drivers now earn $80,000, she says, yet she still can't find enough people for the job. 

About 51,000 more drivers are needed to meet the demand from companies such as Amazon and Walmart that are shipping more goods across the country, according to the American Trucking Associations. The driver shortage is already leading to delayed deliveries and higher prices for goods that Americans buy. The ATA predicts that it's likely to get worse in the coming years. 

Many trucking companies are so desperate for drivers that they are offering signing bonuses and pay raises. So why don't more Americans want this job? We asked truck drivers who have been doing the job anywhere from four months to 40 years for their views.

Interior Department Backs Away From National Park Fee Hike

Last October, an idea was floated to increase entrance fees to some of the most popular national parks to deal with the $11 billion national park maintenance backlog that has accumulated over years.

Well, it looks like that idea won't be coming to pass.

The Washington Post reported:

Interior Department officials are backing away from a plan to dramatically increase entrance fees at the most popular national parks after receiving more than 100,000 public comments from Americans nearly unanimously opposed to the idea. 

In October, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke proposed to increase peak-season entrance fees at 17 parks from $25 to $70 — the largest hike since World War II. Joshua Tree National Park in California, where the peak season starts in January, would have been the first to charge the higher rate, followed by a dozen other parks where visitation peaks in May and June. The cost of riding a motorcycle into the parks would have risen to $50, and walking or biking in would have cost $30.  

But as temperatures climb and parks prepare for another season of potentially record-breaking visitation, Interior and National Park Service officials are rethinking the plan based on public comments that inundated the NPS website over an abbreviated 30-day period.
