Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham: Bullshit Meter Went Off The Scale

Above, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham during today's address.

Updated 04/23/20, 10:50 AM.

"Testing is not a barrier to reopening the economy!" - Vice President Mike Pence, 04/23/20.

This afternoon, I watched the televised address (if that's what you want to call it) by New Mexico Governor "Malevolent Michelle" Lujan Grisham. It was disjointed and she spoke too fast and garbled at times.

As I watched, I felt a growing outrage that this woman can claim that New Mexico is making "great" progress against the coronavirus with a bunch of "congratulations" sprinkled here and there. But the bottom line was what I and so many others were waiting for: When will the lockdown be ended? Before the speech, it was scheduled to expire on April 30.

But now, we have to wait for the state's "battle" plan is full operation (whenever that will be), which includes testing and a vaccine is developed (which may or may never happen). Some in the medical community say that a vaccine won't be ready until, at least, a year and a half from now. Now she says that the lockdown has been extended (for now) to May 15.  Sorry, but the bullshit meter went off the scale!

Remember the successful AIDS vaccine? No? Neither do I.

Just how many people and small businesses can survive until May 15 without financial ruin? That means that the lockdown will reach (roughly) two months. She gave a lot of encouraging and sympathetic words, but encouragement and sympathetic platitudes won't pay the bills or feed families. She announced nothing that would help hurting people.

So, she is basically "kicking the can" further down the road and ruining the state's economy in the process.

She spoke condescendingly as if she were talking to a room full of six-year-olds, not adults with common sense. I was not impressed.

She announced a "recovery council" of advisors on reopening New Mexico's economy. Noticeably absent from her list of council members were any representing the gun store industry (no surprise there) or from the state's county sheriffs (again, no surprise). Any political opponents on her council?

By the way, there will be a protest against continuing the lockdown on May 1 in Santa Fe. It starts at noon at the Roundhouse.

Yes, the Governor's address was disappointing, but not surprising.

Has anyone bothered to review the credentials of Grisham’s medical advisory team? The Lujan family physician (how surprising) and the former director of a facility awash in lawsuits for substandard care and services! This is beyond OBSCENE!!!! These are those dictating YOUR ability to provide for your family!!!

Just did a little searching of those on the NM Economic Recovery Council.

Top contributors to the Queen-Gov election campaign. Not one conservative voice, not one. No bipartisanship, no fiscal responsibility, this shit is going to last until the Great State of New Mexico is the Poster Child for the Socialist Party.

When the bitch does call for a special session of the legislature, expect more spending and higher taxes, with more New Mexicans dependent upon the Government for everything. I wouldn't, and I am not, expecting the unemployment numbers to go down within the state. Real Estate price will start to tumble to a point that people will not be able to sell homes and leave.

Grisham is trying to be a dictator. She wants the power. We need to protest and get back our lives. We Americans can not be told what to do.. We are in America where we have the right to free speech and to bear arms. We are America . Grisham is trying to get people scared to do anything unless she ok's it. Time to stand up. She has no right or power. She isn't bonded. Time for us to take control of our lives.

Dear Reader,

The data continues to roll in from serological testing around the world for COVID-19. Serological tests determine the prevalence of COVID-19 throughout a population. Specifically, it determines how many people have already had COVID-19 and have antibodies in their systems.

On Monday, we reviewed the results from Santa Clara County, California, which is in the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, we’re going to have a look at the test results out of Los Angeles County.

These results are directly from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, and the testing was performed in partnership with the University of Southern California (USC).

The prevalence of the COVID-19 antibodies was 4.1%, with a range of 2.8%–5.6%. This estimates that somewhere between 221,000 and 442,000 adults in Los Angeles County have had and recovered from COVID-19. As of this writing, there are only 15,140 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, and 663 deaths.

In other words, the serological test puts the estimated number of cases somewhere between 14 and 29 times higher than confirmed cases.

What gets media coverage is a grossly inaccurate and overstated number. If we divide the number of deaths by the number of confirmed cases in Los Angeles County, we arrive at a 4.18% mortality rate [663 deaths / 15,140 confirmed cases]. This is not the case fatality rate.

The research that the Department of Public Health and USC performed provides us with data to calculate an actual estimate of the current case fatality rate. And just like the research from Stanford Medical School for Santa Clara County, the data demonstrate that COVID-19 has spread far more widely than the “experts” ever predicted.

At 221,000 infected with COVID-19, the case fatality rate is 0.26% [663 deaths / (221,000 + 15,140)].

At 442,000 infected with COVID-19, the case fatality rate is 0.13% [663 deaths / (442,000 +15,140)]. This is right on par with the seasonal flu.

We can think of 0.26% as an upper bound, the worst-case scenario. The reality is that the rate is likely much lower. The more testing that we perform, the more we realize that COVID-19 has spread further than was estimated.

This data are remarkably positive, and we have more to look forward to. On Monday, New York began serological testing. It is picking a large sample size of at least 3,000 people to run the serological test.

Given the population density of the New York metropolitan area, I believe we’ll see that COVID-19 has spread even further there than in other areas of the country.

Serological tests are critical to understanding the virus. The number of confirmed cases is irrelevant in estimating a case fatality rate for a virus like COVID-19.

We must understand how many people in total have contracted the virus. Then we will have a far more accurate understanding of how “deadly” a virus really is.

The more we test, the further the case fatality rates will drop. The more data we have that reveals the actual situation, the sooner our economies can recover.

Just hope voting residents realize they did this to themselves. Hopefully the next election sees things turned around.

She is stupid. Families are struggling out here and she could care less . They don't talk bout how many people has recovered from this . More people has died from the flu . And most people that have died from COVID 19 already had underlying health issues but thcy forget to say that part and just say they passed from COVID 19.
